5. Setup and Installation

5.1 Initial Inspection

Upon receiving your battery, inspect it for any visible damage. Ensure all included accessories are present as listed in Section 3.

5.2 Connection Options (Series and Parallel)

The LiTime 12V 50Ah battery supports both parallel and series connections to achieve higher capacity or voltage, respectively. When connecting multiple batteries, ensure they are of the same brand, type, voltage, amps, and ideally, purchased within 3 months of each other to ensure optimal performance and longevity.

  • Parallel Connection: Connect batteries in parallel to increase total capacity while maintaining the same voltage (e.g., two 12V 50Ah batteries in parallel create a 12V 100Ah system). Maximum capacity of 200Ah is supported.
  • Series Connection: Connect batteries in series to increase total voltage (e.g., two 12V 50Ah batteries in series create a 24V 50Ah system). Higher voltages of 24V, 36V, and 48V are supported.

LiFePO4 batteries require minimal maintenance compared to lead-acid batteries. Follow these guidelines to ensure optimal performance and longevity:

  • Terminal Connections: Periodically check and tighten terminal connections to ensure good electrical contact. Keep terminals clean and free of corrosion.
  • Temperature Range:
    • Charge Temperature: 32°F ~ 122°F (0°C ~ 50°C)
    • Discharge Temperature: -4°F ~ 140°F (-20°C ~ 60°C)
    • Storage Temperature: 14°F ~ 122°F (-10°C ~ 50°C)
Avoid operating or storing the battery outside these ranges.
  • Storage: If storing the battery for an extended period, ensure it is charged to approximately 50% State of Charge (SOC) and stored in a cool, dry place within the recommended temperature range.

8. Safety Information

WARNING: Failure to follow these safety instructions may result in fire, explosion, electric shock, or other injury or damage.

  • Risk of Fire, Explosion, or Burns:
    • DO NOT heat above 70°C (158°F).
    • DO NOT throw into fire or incinerate.
    • DO NOT disassemble the battery.
    • DO NOT short circuit the battery terminals.
  • Connection Safety:
    • DO NOT reverse connections from charger to battery. Always connect positive to positive and negative to negative.
    • Ensure all connections are secure and properly insulated to prevent accidental short circuits.
  • Intended Use:
    • This battery is for energy storage applications only. DO NOT use it as a starting battery for internal combustion engines.
    • DO NOT use this battery for golf carts.
  • Handling: Despite its lightweight nature, handle the battery with care to avoid dropping or physical damage.

9. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your LiTime 12V 50Ah LiFePO4 battery, consider the following common troubleshooting steps:

  • Battery Not Charging:
    • Verify that the charger is specifically designed for LiFePO4 batteries and that its voltage and current output are compatible.
    • Check all cable connections for looseness or corrosion.
    • Ensure the ambient temperature is within the recommended charging range (32°F ~ 122°F).
  • Battery Not Discharging/No Power Output:
    • Check all load connections for proper contact and polarity.
    • Confirm that the load's current draw does not exceed the battery's maximum continuous discharge current (50A). The BMS may have activated a protection mode.
    • Verify the battery's State of Charge (SOC). If the battery is fully discharged, the BMS will prevent further discharge.
    • Ensure the ambient temperature is within the recommended discharge range (-4°F ~ 140°F).
  • Unusual Odor or Heat: Immediately disconnect the battery from all loads and chargers. Move the battery to a safe, well-ventilated area. Do not attempt to use the battery if it exhibits these symptoms. Contact customer support.
