5. Installation Guide
5.1 Pre-Installation Checklist
- Ensure your Polaris RZR XP 1000 or RZR XP 4 1000 (2019-2023 models) is turned off and the parking brake is engaged.
- Gather all necessary tools (e.g., wrenches, sockets, wire cutters, crimpers).
- Review all components to ensure nothing is missing or damaged.
5.2 Mounting the Winch and Plate
The SuperATV mounting plate is designed for a direct, bolt-on installation in the factory location above the front differential of your Polaris RZR. No drilling is required.
- Remove any existing components that obstruct the winch mounting area.

5.3 Wiring the Winch
The winch comes with all necessary wiring and a solenoid for connection to your vehicle's electrical system. Follow the color-coded wires for correct connections.
- Mount the solenoid in a secure, dry location, typically under the hood or near the battery.
- Connect the main power cables from the winch motor to the solenoid.
- Connect the solenoid to the vehicle's battery, ensuring proper polarity (positive to positive, negative to negative).
- Route the wired rocker switch cable from the solenoid to the vehicle's dashboard.
- Connect the wired rocker switch to an ignition-hot power source in your vehicle's fuse box, as per the wiring diagram provided with your kit.

5.4 Connecting the Remote
The wireless remote control connects to the winch's electrical system via a receiver unit. Ensure the receiver is securely connected to the solenoid and properly grounded.
6. Operating Your Winch
6.1 Basic Winching Procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is in neutral and the parking brake is engaged.
- Unspool the synthetic rope to the desired anchor point.
- Secure the hook to a suitable anchor point using a tree saver strap or shackle.
- Engage the winch using the wired rocker switch or wireless remote.
- Maintain a safe distance from the winch rope and vehicle during operation.
- Once the recovery is complete, carefully rewind the rope onto the drum, ensuring it spools evenly.
6.2 Manual Freespool Operation
To quickly unspool the rope without using motor power, engage the freespool function. Locate the freespool knob on the winch motor (refer to Image 6.1). Rotate the knob to the 'Freespool' position to disengage the gearbox, allowing the rope to be pulled out manually. Rotate it back to 'Engaged' before winching.

6.3 Using the Wireless Remote
The wireless remote provides convenient operation from a safe distance. To activate the remote, press and hold both buttons simultaneously for approximately 3 seconds until the indicator light illuminates. Use the 'Winch In' and 'Winch Out' buttons to control the rope. To turn off the remote, press and hold both buttons again for 3 seconds until the light extinguishes.
7. Maintenance and Care
- Regularly inspect the synthetic rope for any signs of wear, fraying, or damage. Replace if necessary.
- Check all electrical connections for corrosion or looseness. Clean and tighten as needed.
- Keep the winch and fairlead clean from mud, dirt, and debris. Rinse with fresh water after use in harsh conditions.
- Ensure the winch rope is spooled evenly on the drum to prevent damage.
- Lubricate moving parts as recommended by SuperATV (refer to specific product documentation if available).
8. Troubleshooting Common Issues
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Winch does not operate | No power, loose connections, blown fuse, remote not activated. | Check battery connections, inspect fuses, ensure remote is turned on. |
| Winch operates slowly or weakly | Low battery voltage, overloaded winch, poor electrical connections. | Charge battery, reduce load, clean and tighten connections. |
| Rope does not unspool freely | Freespool not engaged, rope binding on drum. | Engage freespool knob, manually pull rope to relieve tension and re-spool evenly. |
