4. Setup

To set up the game, unfold the gameboard and place it on a flat surface. Each player selects a Fellowship Character token to represent them on the board. The Ring of Power is placed near the board, ready for use. Distribute the cardboard coins according to the game guide's starting money instructions. Shuffle the Title Deed cards and place them in their designated spots on the board. The Quest cards are also shuffled and placed face down on their respective spaces.

5. Operating Instructions (Gameplay)

Game Objective:

The primary objective is to acquire properties, charge rent, and strategically use the Ring of Power to become the wealthiest player. The game concludes when the Ring Tracker reaches Mount Doom, and the player with the most money wins.

Playing the Game:

1. Starting Play: Determine the starting player. On your turn, roll the two dice and move your token clockwise around the board the corresponding number of spaces.
2. Properties: When you land on an unowned property, you may purchase it for the price indicated on the board. If you choose not to buy it, the property is then auctioned off to the highest bidder.
3. Rent: If you land on a property owned by another player, you must pay them rent as indicated on their Title Deed card.
4. Outposts and Fortresses: Instead of houses and hotels, you can build Outposts and Fortresses on your properties to increase the rent collected.
5. Quest Cards: Landing on a Quest space requires drawing a Quest card and following its instructions. These cards introduce unique Lord of the Rings themed events and challenges.
6. The Ring of Power: The Ring of Power is a central game mechanic. The player currently holding the Ring gains special powers, such as becoming invisible to avoid paying rent when landing on an opponent's property. However, holding the Ring also carries risks.
7. Eye of Sauron: One of the dice features the Eye of Sauron. If a player rolls the Eye of Sauron while holding the Ring of Power, they must pay a heavy price, as detailed in the game guide.
8. Ring Tracker: For each turn a player possesses the Ring of Power, the cardboard Ring Tracker moves one space closer to Mount Doom on the designated path. The game ends when the Ring Tracker reaches Mount Doom.
9. Passing the Ring: Players can choose to give the Ring to another player after passing them on the board, or they can battle for possession of the Ring by rolling dice when passing an opponent. The player with the higher roll takes possession of the Ring.
