The MarCum Lithium 12V 30AH LiFePO4 Max Battery is designed to power various electronic devices, including underwater cameras and sonar units. This battery offers substantial power capacity for demanding applications. With dimensions of 7 x 3 x 6.63 inches and a weight of 7 lbs 3 oz, the battery is designed for portability and convenient storage. An integrated Battery Management System (BMS) provides regulation and protection, contributing to a lifespan of approximately 2,000 full charge cycles. The battery is safety tested and certified to UL 62133 standards.

Safety Information

WARNING: Failure to follow these safety instructions may result in fire, injury, or damage to the battery or connected devices.

Do not immerse the battery in water or sea water. Keep the battery in a cool dry place when not in use. Do not use or leave the battery near a heat source (i.e. heater, fire). Use the battery charger only as directed when recharging. Do not reverse the positive and negative terminals on the battery connections. Do not discard the battery in a fire, furnace, or other combustible space. Do not connect the battery directly to an electrical outlet. Do not short-circuit the battery by directly connecting the positive and negative terminals with metal objects. Do not directly solder the battery or pierce the battery with a nail or other sharp objects. If the battery gives off an odor, generates heat, becomes discolored or in any way appears abnormal during use, or while charging or discharging, immediately stop using it. If the battery leaks and the battery contents (electrolyte) gets into an eye, do not rub the eye. Instead, flush the eye(s) with clean water and immediately seek medical attention or it may result in injury to the eye(s). Do not use the battery in a location where static electricity or magnetic fields are great or it may result in damage to the battery safety devices. Do not leave the battery in high temperatures (i.e. in direct sunlight or in extremely hot weather) or it may overheat, and its performance will be degraded, and service life decreased. Tape the battery terminals prior to disposal to insulate them as discarded batteries may cause fire or explosion.

Setup

  1. Initial Inspection: Upon unpacking, inspect the battery for any visible damage. If damage is present, do not use the battery and contact customer support.
  2. Charging: Before first use, fully charge the battery using a compatible LiFePO4 battery charger. Ensure the charger's voltage and current settings match the battery's specifications (12V, max charge current 15A). Connect the charger's positive (+) terminal to the battery's positive terminal and the negative (-) terminal to the battery's negative terminal.
  3. Terminal Connection: The battery features stud terminals. Ensure all connections are secure and properly tightened to prevent power loss or damage.

Operating Instructions

  1. Connecting Devices: Connect your electronic devices (e.g., fish finders, underwater cameras) to the battery using appropriate cables and connectors. Always ensure correct polarity (positive to positive, negative to negative).
  2. Powering On/Off: Follow the power-on and power-off procedures for your specific electronic device. The battery provides continuous power when connected.
  3. Battery Management System (BMS): The integrated BMS protects the battery from overcharge, over-discharge, over-current, and short circuits. If the battery unexpectedly stops providing power, it may be due to a BMS protection trigger. Disconnect the load and allow the battery to reset, or recharge if it was over-discharged.

Maintenance

  • Regular Charging: For optimal performance and longevity, recharge the battery after each use. Avoid leaving the battery in a deeply discharged state for extended periods.
  • Storage: When not in use for extended periods, store the battery in a cool, dry place, ideally at a partial state of charge (e.g., 50-70%). Avoid extreme temperatures.
  • Cleaning: Keep the battery terminals clean and free from corrosion. Use a dry cloth to wipe down the battery casing. Do not use harsh chemicals or immerse the battery in liquids.
  • Disposal: Do not dispose of the battery in household waste. LiFePO4 batteries must be recycled properly. Contact your local recycling center for information on proper disposal. Tape the battery terminals prior to disposal to insulate them.

Troubleshooting

  • Battery Not Charging:
    - Ensure the charger is correctly connected and functioning.
    - Verify the charger is compatible with LiFePO4 batteries and its output matches the battery's voltage and current requirements.
    - Check for any damage to the charging cables or battery terminals.
  • Device Not Powering On:
    - Confirm the battery is sufficiently charged.
    - Check all cable connections for proper polarity and secure fit.
    - The BMS may have triggered a protection mode due to over-discharge or over-current. Disconnect the device, wait a few minutes, and try again. If over-discharged, recharge the battery.
  • Reduced Run Time:
    - This may indicate the battery is not fully charged or is nearing the end of its lifespan.
    - Ensure the charger is fully charging the battery.
    - Review the power consumption of your connected devices.
  • Unusual Odor, Heat, or Discoloration:
    - Immediately discontinue use and disconnect the battery from all devices and chargers.
    - Refer to the Safety Information section and contact MarCum customer support.
