  1. Connect to Power: Connect the provided power adapter to the switch's DC power input and then to a power outlet. The Power LED will illuminate.
  2. Connect Network Devices: Connect your network devices (e.g., router, computer, IP camera, access point) to the RJ45 ports using Ethernet cables. For PoE-powered devices, connect them to ports 1-4.
  3. Verify Connection: The Link/Act LED for each connected port will light up, indicating a successful connection. For PoE devices, the PoE status LED will also illuminate.

5. Operating Modes

The TL-SF1006P offers two special operating modes: Extend Mode and Priority Mode, configurable via switches on the rear panel.

Extend Mode

  • Function: When enabled, Extend Mode increases the PoE transmission range for ports 1-4 up to 250 meters (820 feet).
  • Note: In Extend Mode, the speed of ports 1-4 will be downgraded to 10 Mbps. This mode is ideal for long-distance surveillance system deployments.
  • Activation: Flip the 'Extend (Port 1-4)' switch to 'On'.

Priority Mode

  • Function: When enabled, Priority Mode ensures that ports 1-2 receive power priority over other PoE ports (3-4).
  • Benefit: This guarantees high quality of video or voice data transmission for critical devices connected to ports 1 and 2, especially when the total PoE budget is nearing its limit.
  • Activation: Flip the 'Priority (Port 1-2)' switch to 'On'.

6. Applications

The TL-SF1006P switch supports various application scenarios due to its PoE+ capabilities and flexible operating modes.

Examples of application scenarios: Surveillance with IP Cameras, Conference Calls with IP Phones, and Wi-Fi Coverage with Omada EAPs.

  • Surveillance Systems: Power IP cameras over long distances using Extend Mode.
  • VoIP Phone Systems: Provide power and network connectivity to IP phones, ensuring clear voice communication with Priority Mode.
  • Wireless Coverage: Deploy Omada EAPs (Enterprise Access Points) for stable and fast Wi-Fi coverage without needing separate power outlets.
  • Small Office/Home Office (SOHO) Networks: Expand wired network connections for computers, printers, and other devices.

7. Maintenance

To ensure optimal performance and longevity of your TP-Link TL-SF1006P switch, follow these maintenance guidelines:

  • Keep the device in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and heat sources.
  • Ensure proper ventilation around the switch to prevent overheating.
  • Clean the device regularly with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use liquid or aerosol cleaners.
  • Avoid placing heavy objects on top of the switch.
  • Only use the provided power adapter.

8. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your TL-SF1006P switch, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

  • No Power:
    • Ensure the power adapter is securely connected to the switch and a working power outlet.
    • Verify the power outlet is functional by plugging in another device.
  • No Link/Activity on a Port:
    • Check that the Ethernet cable is securely connected at both ends (switch and device).
    • Try a different Ethernet cable.
    • Ensure the connected device is powered on and functioning correctly.
    • If using Extend Mode, ensure the connected device supports 10 Mbps speed or adjust the mode if higher speed is required.
  • PoE Device Not Receiving Power:
    • Ensure the PoE device is connected to one of the PoE+ ports (1-4).
    • Verify the PoE device is 802.3at/af compliant.
    • Check the PoE Max LED. If it's red, the total power budget (67W) might be exceeded. Disconnect some PoE devices or use lower-power devices.
    • If using Extend Mode, ensure the device is compatible with the reduced speed.
