Initial Setup
Follow these steps to set up your D-Link DIR-X1860 router:
- Position the Router: Place the router in a central location in your home, away from obstructions and devices that may cause interference (e.g., cordless phones, microwaves).
- Connect to Modem: Connect one end of the provided Ethernet cable to the WAN (Internet) port on the back of the DIR-X1860 router (usually yellow). Connect the other end to an Ethernet port on your modem.
- Power On: Connect the power adapter to the router's power port and then plug it into a power outlet. Wait for the power LED indicator on the router to turn solid.
- Connect a Device: You can connect a computer to the router either wirelessly or via an Ethernet cable. For wired connection, use an Ethernet cable to connect your computer to one of the LAN ports (1-4) on the router. For wireless connection, find the Wi-Fi network name (SSID) and password printed on the router's label.
- Access Web Interface: Open a web browser on your connected device and type
http://dlinkrouter.localor192.168.0.1into the address bar. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup wizard, which will guide you through setting up your Wi-Fi name, password, and administrator password.

Operation
Connecting to Wi-Fi
To connect your devices to the router's Wi-Fi network:
- On your device (smartphone, tablet, laptop), open the Wi-Fi settings.
- Scan for available networks.
- Select the Wi-Fi network name (SSID) you configured during setup (or the default one found on the router's label).
- Enter the Wi-Fi password (network key) when prompted.
- Your device should now be connected to the internet.
Accessing Router Settings
You can manage your router's settings, such as changing Wi-Fi passwords, setting up parental controls, or configuring advanced network options, through its web-based interface:
- Ensure your device is connected to the router's network.
- Open a web browser and navigate to
http://dlinkrouter.localor192.168.0.1. - Log in using the administrator username and password you set during the initial setup.
- From here, you can access various settings and features of your router.
Voice Control
The D-Link DIR-X1860 supports voice control via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. To enable this feature, follow the instructions in the router's web interface or refer to the D-Link support website for detailed steps on linking your router to your voice assistant account. Once linked, you can use voice commands to manage certain router functions.
Maintenance
Regular maintenance helps ensure optimal performance and security for your router:
- Firmware Updates: Periodically check for and install the latest firmware updates from the D-Link support website or through the router's web interface. Firmware updates often include performance improvements, bug fixes, and security enhancements.
- Rebooting: If you experience slow speeds or connectivity issues, try rebooting the router by unplugging its power adapter for 10-15 seconds and then plugging it back in.
