1. Introduction and Overview

The Realcook 17-inch Charcoal Smoker Grill is a versatile outdoor cooking appliance designed for smoking, grilling, and use as a fire pit. Its double-layer design allows for flexible configuration, enabling you to prepare a variety of foods through grilling, steaming, baking, braising, roasting, and smoking. This manual provides essential information for safe assembly, operation, and maintenance of your smoker grill.

2. Safety Information

Please read all safety warnings and instructions carefully before assembling or operating this product. Failure to follow these instructions may result in fire, explosion, property damage, or personal injury.

  • Outdoor Use Only: This smoker grill is intended for outdoor use only. Do not operate indoors or in enclosed areas.
  • Clearance: Maintain a minimum distance of 10 feet (3 meters) from combustible materials (e.g., wooden decks, fences, buildings, trees, bushes).
  • Stable Surface: Always place the smoker grill on a hard, level, non-combustible surface.
  • Supervision: Never leave a lit smoker grill unattended. Keep children and pets away from the hot appliance.
  • Carbon Monoxide Hazard: Burning charcoal produces carbon monoxide, which is odorless and can be deadly. Use only in well-ventilated areas.

4. Assembly Instructions

Assembly typically takes 30-45 minutes. Follow these steps carefully.

  1. Attach Legs: Securely attach the legs to the bottom charcoal bowl using the provided hardware. Ensure they are tightened for stability.
  2. Install Charcoal Grate and Water Pan: Place the charcoal grate inside the bottom bowl, followed by the water pan.
  3. Stack Lower Chamber: Place the lower cooking chamber onto the charcoal bowl, aligning the latch locking system.
  4. Insert Cooking Grids: Place one cooking grid into the lower chamber.
  5. Stack Upper Chamber: If using as a full smoker, place the upper cooking chamber onto the lower chamber, aligning the latch locking system. Insert the second cooking grid.
  6. Attach Crossbar and Hangers: If smoking, attach the crossbar and hangers to the inside of the lid.
  7. Place Lid: Position the lid onto the top section. Ensure the built-in thermometer is securely in place.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1. General Operation

  • Ensure the smoker grill is on a stable, non-combustible surface.
  • Use charcoal as the fuel source.
  • The built-in lid thermometer helps monitor internal temperature.

5.2. As a Smoker

To use as a smoker, assemble both upper and lower cooking chambers.

  1. Prepare Charcoal: Place charcoal on the charcoal grate in the bottom bowl. Light the charcoal.
  2. Add Water/Wood Chips: Fill the water pan with water, broth, or other liquids, and add wood chips for flavor. Place it above the charcoal.
  3. Load Food: Place food on the cooking grids. For larger items like turkeys or racks of ribs, use the crossbar and hangers inside the lid.
  4. Monitor Temperature: Close the lid. Use the built-in thermometer to maintain the desired smoking temperature. Adjust air vents as needed to control heat.
  5. Add Fuel/Water: The two access panels allow you to add more charcoal or wood chips, or refill the water pan, without fully disassembling the smoker or losing excessive heat. Open the upper door to check food status, and the lower door to access the charcoal and water pan.

5.3. As a BBQ Grill

The smoker grill can be used as a single or double-layer barbecue grill, providing up to 453 square inches of cooking space.

  1. Single Grill: Use only the bottom charcoal bowl and one cooking grid for a compact grilling setup.
  2. Double Grill: Assemble the lower cooking chamber onto the charcoal bowl, and place a cooking grid in each section for expanded grilling capacity.
  3. Grilling: Place charcoal on the grate, light it, and once hot, place food directly on the cooking grids.

5.4. As a Fire Pit

The base section of the smoker grill can be used as a fire pit for warmth in cold weather.

  1. Configuration: Use only the bottom charcoal bowl with its legs.
  2. Fuel: Place appropriate fire pit fuel (e.g., wood logs, charcoal) into the bowl.
  3. Safety: Observe all fire safety precautions, including maintaining clear distances from combustibles and never leaving the fire unattended.

6. Maintenance and Cleaning

Regular cleaning and proper storage will extend the lifespan of your Realcook Smoker Grill.

  • Cool Down: Always allow the smoker grill to cool completely before cleaning.
  • Ash Removal: Once cooled, remove all ashes from the charcoal bowl. Dispose of ashes safely in a non-combustible container.
  • Cleaning Grids and Water Pan: Wash cooking grids and the water pan with warm, soapy water. For stubborn residue, use a grill brush. Rinse thoroughly and dry.
  • Exterior Cleaning: Wipe down exterior surfaces with a damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners that could damage the finish.
