Setup and Installation
Proper preparation and careful execution are crucial for a successful installation. It is recommended to have at least two people for installation due to the weight and size of the door components.
1. Pre-Installation Requirements
- Rough Opening: The minimal rough opening required can be calculated as: Door Width + 2 inches; Door Height + 1.25 inches. For the 72" x 96" door, the recommended rough opening is approximately 74" x 97 1/2" inches.
- Tools: Ensure you have necessary tools such as a measuring tape, level, drill, screwdriver, shims, wood screws (3-inch recommended), caulk, and a chisel set (for hardware mortising if needed).
- Door Trimming: Each door slab can be trimmed by up to 3/4 inch on the top, bottom, left, and right sides if minor adjustments are needed.

2. Frame Assembly
- Assemble the door frame components. The frames connect prior to installation into the rough opening.
- Ensure the frame is square and level before proceeding.

3. Frame Installation into Rough Opening
- Carefully position the assembled frame into the rough opening.
- Use shims to ensure the frame is plumb, level, and square within the opening.
- Secure the frame to the wall studs using 3-inch wood screws. Place screws at the top, middle, and bottom on both sides of the frame. It is advisable to remove the weather stripping to conceal the screw heads, then reattach it.
- Verify that the frame is flush with the wall surface.
4. Door Slab Installation
- Place shims under the door slabs to create an 1/8 to 1/4 inch gap from the floor, preventing rubbing.
- Position the door slabs within the frame. Ensure even spacing around all edges of the door. Adjust shims as necessary to achieve proper alignment.
- Mark the hinge locations on both the door slabs and the frame. The provided butterfly hinges do not require mortising.
- Attach the hinges to the door slabs and then to the frame using the provided screws.
- Install the passage modern levers. A 2-inch hole saw bit can be used for the handle, and a dremel tool with a 1/4 inch bit or a chisel set can be used for the latch mortise.

5. Finishing Touches
- Install the casing. It should clip into the frame and against your wall. Use a nail gun or finish nails to secure it in place.
- Apply caulk to seal any gaps between the frame, casing, and wall for a finished appearance and improved insulation.
