5. Setup Guide

Follow these steps to set up your FortiGate-80F firewall:

2. Connect Power: Connect the provided power adapter to the DC+12V input on the rear panel and plug it into a power outlet. The Power LED on the front panel should illuminate.
3. Connect WAN: Connect your internet service provider's modem or router to one of the RJ45/SFP Shared Media WAN ports (e.g., WAN1).
4. Connect LAN: Connect your internal network switch or a computer directly to one of the GE RJ45 LAN ports (e.g., port 1).
5. Initial Access:
   • Web-based Manager: Open a web browser on a computer connected to a LAN port and navigate to the default IP address (e.g., http://192.168.1.99 or as specified in the quick start guide). Log in with the default username and password (typically 'admin' with no password initially).
   • CLI Console: For advanced configuration, connect a console cable from your computer's serial port to the FortiGate's console port. Use a terminal emulator (e.g., PuTTY) with settings: 9600 baud, 8 data bits, no parity, 1 stop bit, no flow control.
6. Initial Configuration: Follow the on-screen prompts or the quick start guide to change default credentials, configure basic network settings, and enable internet access.

Once your FortiGate-80F is set up, you can manage its operations through the web-based manager or CLI.

6.1. Web-based Manager

The web-based manager provides a graphical interface for configuring and monitoring your FortiGate unit. Key areas include:

• Dashboard: Provides an overview of system status, network activity, and security events.
