Setup and Installation

  1. Unpacking and Inspection:

Carefully remove the pump and all accessories from the packaging. Inspect for any damage. Ensure all components listed in the "Product Overview" section are present.

  2. Attaching the Discharge Hose:

Connect a suitable discharge hose to the pump's outlet. The pump includes various hose adapters to fit different hose sizes (1", 1-1/4", 1-1/2"). Secure the hose connection with a clamp (not included) to prevent leaks.

  3. Selecting the Correct Base:

The pump comes with interchangeable bases for different applications:

    • Clean Water Use: Attach the smaller red base (particle size less than 5mm). This base allows for lower water levels before the pump stops.
    • Dirty Water Use: Attach the larger red base (particle size less than 30mm). This base is designed for water containing larger debris.
    • Low Suction (1mm): Remove both red bases to expose the black flat base for maximum water removal down to 1mm. This setting is ideal for nearly dry surfaces.

To change the base, ensure the pump is unplugged. Unscrew or detach the current base and secure the desired base firmly.

Image: The MEDAS pump shown with its two distinct red bases: a clean water base (smaller holes, 0.78 inch height, for particles less than 5mm) and a dirty water base (larger holes, 1.77 inch height, for particles less than 30mm). The pump dimensions are also indicated.

  4. Positioning the Pump:

Place the pump on a stable, flat surface in the water to be drained. Ensure the float switch can move freely without obstruction. The pump should be fully submerged for optimal operation and cooling.

  5. Power Connection:

Plug the pump into a grounded 110V power outlet. Ensure the outlet is protected by a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) for safety.

Operating Instructions

The MEDAS US-MC-400E pump operates automatically via its float switch. The pump will start when the water level rises and the float switch activates, and it will stop when the water level drops and the float switch deactivates.

Automatic Operation with Float Switch:

  • Ensure the float switch is positioned so it can move freely up and down with the water level.
  • The pump will automatically turn ON when the water level reaches the activation point of the float switch.
  • The pump will automatically turn OFF when the water level drops below the deactivation point of the float switch.

Water Level Activation Points:

The starting water level depends on the attached base:

  • Low Suction (no base): Starts at approximately 1mm.
  • Clean Water Base: Starts at approximately 5.4 cm (2.1 inches).
  • Dirty Water Base: Starts at approximately 5.8 cm (2.3 inches).

Manual Operation (if applicable):

For continuous operation or to override the float switch, some models allow the float switch to be secured in an "up" position. Refer to the specific instructions for your model if this feature is desired. Always monitor the pump during manual operation to prevent dry running.

Maintenance and Storage

Regular Maintenance:

  • Cleaning: After each use, especially with dirty water, rinse the pump thoroughly with clean water. Remove any debris from the intake screen and impeller area.
  • Inspection: Periodically inspect the power cord, plug, and float switch for any signs of damage or wear. Check the pump housing for cracks.
  • Impeller Access: If the pump's performance decreases, the impeller may be clogged. Disconnect power, remove the base, and carefully clear any obstructions from the impeller.

Storage:

  • Before storing, ensure the pump is clean and dry.
  • Store the pump in a dry, frost-free location.
  • Coil the power cord neatly and store it with the pump.

Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Pump does not start. No power supply; Float switch not activated; Motor overload.Check power connection and GFCI. Ensure float switch is free to move and water level is sufficient. Allow pump to cool if motor overload is suspected.
Pump runs but no water is discharged.Intake screen or impeller clogged; Airlock in pump; Discharge hose kinked or blocked.Disconnect power, clear debris from intake/impeller. Lift and lower pump to release airlock. Check and clear discharge hose.
Pump stops unexpectedly.Water level too low (float switch deactivated); Thermal overload protection activated.Check water level and float switch position. Allow pump to cool down if it overheated.
Reduced flow rate.Partial clog in intake or hose; Worn impeller.Clean intake screen and impeller. Check discharge hose for partial blockages.
