2. Important Safety Information

Always observe basic safety precautions when using electric tools to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and personal injury. Read and understand all instructions before operating this chainsaw.

General Safety Rules:

  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Always wear safety glasses or goggles, hearing protection, heavy-duty gloves, and sturdy footwear. A hard hat and leg protection (chaps) are also recommended.
  • Work Area: Keep the work area clean and well-lit. Do not operate the chainsaw in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases, or dust. Keep bystanders, children, and pets at least 10 meters (30 feet) away from the work area.
  • Electrical Safety: Do not expose the chainsaw to rain or wet conditions. Avoid body contact with grounded surfaces. Use only extension cords suitable for outdoor use and rated for the chainsaw's power requirements.
  • Kickback: Be aware of kickback, which can occur when the moving chain contacts an object at the upper portion of the guide bar's nose. Always maintain a firm grip with both hands on the chainsaw.
  • Proper Grip: Hold the chainsaw firmly with both hands, with your thumbs and fingers encircling the handles.
  • Maintenance: Disconnect the chainsaw from the power supply before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing the tool.

3. Setup and Preparation

The Hyper Tough Electric Chainsaw is designed for immediate use with no assembly required. However, proper preparation is essential before each operation.

3.1. Filling the Chain Oil Reservoir

This chainsaw features an Automatic Chain Oiler, which requires the oil reservoir to be filled with appropriate bar and chain oil. Never operate the chainsaw without chain oil, as this will cause rapid wear to the chain and guide bar.

  1. Ensure the chainsaw is unplugged from the power source.
  2. Locate the oil filler cap, typically on the top or side of the chainsaw body.
  3. Unscrew the cap and carefully pour bar and chain oil into the reservoir until it reaches the maximum fill line.
  4. Replace the cap securely.

3.2. Checking Chain Tension (Tool-Less System)

The Tool-Less Chain Tensioning System allows for quick and easy adjustment of chain tension. Proper chain tension is crucial for safe and efficient operation.

  1. Ensure the chainsaw is unplugged.
  2. Locate the tensioning knob or lever on the side of the chainsaw.
  3. Loosen the locking mechanism (if applicable) that secures the guide bar.
  4. Turn the tensioning knob to adjust the chain tension. The chain should be snug against the guide bar, but still able to be pulled freely by hand. There should be no sag on the underside of the guide bar.
  5. Once tension is correct, secure the locking mechanism.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1. Starting the Chainsaw

  1. Ensure all safety precautions are followed and PPE is worn.
  2. Connect the chainsaw to a suitable power outlet using a heavy-duty outdoor extension cord.
  3. Engage the chain brake (if applicable) before starting.
  4. Press the safety lock-off button (if present) and then squeeze the trigger switch to start the motor. The chain will begin to move at a speed of 8.5 m/s.
  5. Release the safety lock-off button once the trigger is engaged.

4.2. Cutting Techniques

  • Bucking Spike: Utilize the bucking spike (felling dog) by pivoting the chainsaw against the wood. This provides leverage and stability during cutting.
  • Cutting Small Branches: Support the branch to prevent it from pinching the chain. Cut from the top down or bottom up depending on the branch's position.
  • Cutting Larger Logs: Make a relief cut on the underside of the log first to prevent pinching, then complete the cut from the top.
  • Avoid Kickback: Never cut with the tip of the guide bar. Always keep the chain engaged with the wood.

4.3. Stopping the Chainsaw

Release the trigger switch. The safety brake will engage, stopping the chain almost instantly. Always unplug the chainsaw from the power source after use and before any adjustments or maintenance.

5. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and safe operation of your Hyper Tough chainsaw. Always disconnect the power before performing any maintenance.

5.1. Chain Oiling

The automatic oiler keeps the chain lubricated during operation. Regularly check the oil level and refill the reservoir with quality bar and chain oil before each use and during extended cutting sessions.

5.2. Chain Sharpening and Replacement

A sharp chain is essential for efficient and safe cutting. Sharpen the chain regularly or replace it when dull or damaged. Refer to the chain manufacturer's specifications for proper sharpening angles and file sizes. Ensure the chain is correctly tensioned after any sharpening or replacement.

5.3. Guide Bar Maintenance

Periodically clean the guide bar groove to remove sawdust and debris. Flip the guide bar regularly to ensure even wear. Check for burrs on the guide bar rails and file them smooth if necessary.

5.4. Cleaning

After each use, clean the chainsaw thoroughly. Remove sawdust and debris from the motor housing, chain, and guide bar. Do not use water to clean the electrical components. Use a dry cloth or soft brush.
