Introduction
The Neato Robotics D8 Intelligent Robot Vacuum is designed to provide efficient and thorough cleaning for your home. Featuring a unique D-shape design, LaserSmart navigation, and powerful suction, the D8 is engineered to clean corners and edges effectively. This manual provides essential information for setting up, operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting your robot vacuum.
What's in the Box
Before beginning, ensure all components are present in the packaging:
- Neato D8 Robot Vacuum
- Charging Base
- Power Cord
- High-Performance Filter (pre-installed or separate)
- Spiral Combo Brush (pre-installed)
Setup
1. Charging Base Placement
Place the charging base against a wall in an open area, ensuring at least 3 feet (1 meter) of clear space on either side and in front of the base. Plug the power cord into the charging base and then into a wall outlet. Ensure the outlet is always powered.
2. Initial Charge
Place the Neato D8 robot onto the charging base. The robot's indicator light will show its charging status. For optimal battery life, fully charge the robot before its first use. A full charge typically takes several hours.

3. Connect to MyNeato App
Download the MyNeato app from your device's app store. Follow the in-app instructions to connect your Neato D8 robot to your home Wi-Fi network. The app allows you to control the robot, schedule cleanings, and set up cleaning zones.
Operating Instructions
Starting a Clean
You can start a cleaning cycle in two ways:
- On the Robot: Press the Start button on the robot. The robot will begin a full house clean.
- Using the MyNeato App: Open the MyNeato app, select your D8 robot, and tap the 'Start' button. You can also set up cleaning schedules or specific zones through the app.
Cleaning Modes
The Neato D8 offers different cleaning modes to suit your needs:
- Eco Mode: Provides a quieter, longer clean, ideal for lighter debris and preserving battery life.
- Turbo Mode: Increases suction power and brush speed for a deeper, more thorough clean, suitable for tougher dirt and pet hair.
LaserSmart Navigation
The D8 uses LaserSmart SLAM technology with LIDAR to map and navigate your home. This allows the robot to clean in straight lines, even in the dark, and create a detailed floor plan. The robot will systematically cover all accessible areas.

Zones and No-Go Zones
Using the MyNeato app, you can customize your floor plan by creating:
- Zones: Define specific areas for the robot to clean more frequently or with a particular mode.
- No-Go Zones: Mark areas the robot should avoid, such as pet food bowls, delicate items, or child play areas.
Auto-Recharge and Resume
If the robot's battery runs low during a cleaning cycle, it will automatically return to its charging base. Once sufficiently charged, it will resume cleaning from where it left off to complete the job.
Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and extends the life of your Neato D8 robot vacuum.
Emptying the Dirt Bin
Empty the 0.7-liter dirt bin after each cleaning cycle or when indicated by the app. Press the release button to remove the bin, open it, and discard the debris. Close the bin securely and reinsert it into the robot.
Cleaning the Filter
The high-performance filter traps up to 99% of allergens and fine dust particles. Remove the filter from the dirt bin and gently tap it over a trash can to dislodge debris. Replace the filter every 1-2 months, or more frequently with heavy use.
Cleaning the Brushes
Periodically check and clean the Spiral Combo Brush. Remove any hair, string, or debris wrapped around the brush. The D-shape design allows for a larger brush, which is effective on various surfaces including hardwood, carpet, and tile.
Cleaning Sensors and Wheels
Wipe the robot's sensors (located on the front bumper and underside) with a clean, dry cotton swab or cloth. Also, check the wheels for any trapped debris and clean them as needed to ensure smooth movement.
Troubleshooting
If your Neato D8 encounters an issue, refer to the MyNeato app for specific error messages and troubleshooting steps. Common issues and general solutions include:
- Robot Stuck: Clear any obstacles around the robot. If it's stuck under furniture, consider setting a No-Go Zone.
- Poor Cleaning Performance: Empty the dirt bin, clean or replace the filter, and clean the main brush.
- Charging Issues: Ensure the charging base is properly plugged in and the robot is correctly docked. Clean the charging contacts on both the robot and the base.
- App Connectivity Problems: Ensure your home Wi-Fi is working, and the robot is within range. Restart your router, the robot, and the MyNeato app.
For persistent issues, consult the support section within the MyNeato app or visit the official Neato Robotics website for further assistance.
