4. Product Overview
The Outlaw Model 5000x is a high-performance 5-channel power amplifier designed to deliver exceptional audio fidelity and robust power for your home theater or stereo system. Its advanced design ensures clean, dynamic sound reproduction.
Key Features:
- Balanced XLR inputs with Common Mode Rejection for reduced noise.
- Differential-sensing RCA input circuit designed to reject input hum.
- Independent power supply rectification for each of the 5 channels, ensuring excellent isolation and dynamic performance.
- Separate output protection relays for each channel, designed to disengage the speaker from the amplifier in the unlikely case of a short or excessive DC offset.
- Modular audio channel design to ensure each audio signal is isolated from the other channels, from input all the way to output.
Front Panel
The front panel features a minimalist design with a power indicator and the Outlaw logo.

5. Setup
5.1 Placement
Place the Model 5000x on a stable, level surface with adequate ventilation. Ensure there is sufficient space around the unit for airflow, especially above and behind it. Avoid placing the amplifier near heat sources or in direct sunlight. Do not stack other components directly on top of the amplifier without proper spacing.
5.2 Audio Input Connections
The Model 5000x offers both balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA inputs for each of its five channels. Connect your preamplifier or AV receiver's pre-outs to the corresponding inputs on the Model 5000x.
- XLR Inputs: For optimal noise rejection and longer cable runs, use balanced XLR cables if your source component supports them. Connect the XLR output from your source to the XLR input on the amplifier.
- RCA Inputs: Use high-quality RCA cables to connect your source component's RCA outputs to the RCA inputs on the amplifier. The differential-sensing circuit helps minimize hum.
5.3 Speaker Output Connections
Connect your speakers to the corresponding binding posts on the rear panel. Ensure correct polarity (+ to + and - to -) for each speaker. The binding posts accept bare wire, spade connectors, or banana plugs.
- Bare Wire: Strip approximately 1/2 inch (12mm) of insulation from the speaker wire. Twist the bare strands tightly. Unscrew the binding post cap, insert the bare wire into the hole, and tighten the cap securely.
- Banana Plugs: Insert the banana plug into the center hole of the binding post.
- Spade Connectors: Unscrew the binding post cap, place the spade connector around the metal post, and tighten the cap securely.
Caution: Ensure all speaker connections are secure and there are no stray wire strands that could cause a short circuit.
5.4 Power Connection
Connect the supplied AC power cord to the IEC inlet on the rear panel of the amplifier, and then plug the other end into a suitable wall outlet. The amplifier supports 120V AC power (check the voltage selector switch if applicable, though typically factory set).
6. Operating Instructions
6.1 Power On/Off
- Main Power Switch: The main power switch is located on the rear panel. Flip it to the 'ON' position to supply power to the amplifier.
- Front Panel Power Button: Once the rear main power switch is ON, press the power button on the front panel to turn the amplifier on or off. The front panel indicator will illuminate when the amplifier is active.
- 12V Trigger: The Model 5000x includes a 12V trigger input and output. Connect a 12V trigger cable from your preamplifier or AV receiver's trigger output to the amplifier's 'TRIGGER IN' port. This allows the amplifier to automatically power on/off with your source component. The 'TRIGGER OUT' can be used to daisy-chain the trigger signal to other compatible components.
6.2 Input Selection
The Model 5000x automatically detects and uses the active input (XLR or RCA) for each channel. Ensure only one type of input is connected per channel to avoid potential conflicts or signal degradation.
7. Maintenance
7.1 Cleaning
To clean the amplifier, first unplug it from the power outlet. Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe down the exterior surfaces. For stubborn marks, a slightly damp cloth can be used, followed by a dry cloth. Avoid using abrasive cleaners, solvents, or chemical sprays, as these can damage the finish.
7.2 Ventilation
Regularly check that the ventilation openings on the amplifier are free from dust and obstructions. Proper airflow is crucial for maintaining optimal operating temperature and ensuring the longevity of the components.
8. Troubleshooting
If you encounter any issues with your Model 5000x, please consult the table below before contacting customer support.
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| No power | Power cord not connected; Rear power switch OFF; Blown fuse | Ensure power cord is securely connected; Flip rear power switch to ON; Check and replace fuse if necessary (refer to service manual or qualified technician). |
| No sound from speakers | Input cables not connected; Speaker wires loose or incorrect polarity; Source component not playing; Amplifier in protection mode | Check all input and speaker connections; Verify source component is active; Power cycle the amplifier. |
| Distorted sound | Input signal too high; Speaker impedance mismatch; Faulty cables | Reduce source volume; Ensure speaker impedance is within amplifier's supported range (4-16 Ohms); Replace audio cables. |
| Humming noise | Ground loop; Poor cable shielding | Ensure all components are on the same electrical circuit; Use higher quality shielded cables; Try a ground loop isolator. |
