5. Operating Instructions

The Cooler Master V550 Gold V2 is designed for reliable and efficient operation.

Semi-Fanless Operation

This power supply features a semi-fanless mode. The 135mm Fluid Dynamic Bearing (FDB) fan remains off under low load (up to 40% of total capacity) to provide silent operation. As the load increases, the fan will automatically activate to maintain optimal temperatures.

Hybrid Switch

A hardware-based hybrid switch is located on the rear of the PSU. This switch allows you to manually toggle the semi-fanless mode on or off.

  • Switch ON: Enables semi-fanless mode (fan off under low load).
  • Switch OFF: Forces the fan to run continuously, regardless of load.

6. Maintenance

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your power supply.

  • Dust Cleaning: Periodically clean dust from the power supply's fan grill and internal components using compressed air. Ensure the PSU is unplugged before cleaning.
  • Cable Inspection: Regularly check all modular cables for secure connections and any signs of wear or damage. Replace any damaged cables immediately.
  • Ventilation: Ensure your PC case has adequate airflow and that the power supply's intake and exhaust vents are not obstructed.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your power supply, refer to the following common troubleshooting steps.

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
PC does not power on.
  • Power cord not connected.
  • PSU switch is OFF.
  • Loose modular cables.
  • Faulty component.
  • Ensure AC power cord is securely plugged into PSU and wall outlet.
  • Flip the PSU power switch to 'ON'.
  • Check all modular cable connections, especially 24-pin ATX and 4+4-pin EPS.
  • Test components individually if possible to isolate the fault.
System crashes or reboots randomly.
  • Insufficient power.
  • Overheating.
  • Faulty PSU.
  • Ensure your system's power requirements do not exceed 550W.
  • Check PC case airflow and clean PSU fan/vents. Consider disabling semi-fanless mode via the hybrid switch.
  • If issues persist, contact Cooler Master support.
PSU fan is always running (not semi-fanless).
  • Hybrid switch is OFF.
  • System load is above 40%.
  • Ensure the hybrid switch on the PSU is set to 'ON' for semi-fanless operation.
  • This is normal behavior if your system is under moderate to heavy load.

If these steps do not resolve your issue, please contact Cooler Master technical support.
