2. Important Safety Information

Always follow basic safety precautions to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and personal injury. Keep this manual for future reference.

  • Work Area Safety: Keep the work area clean and well-lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents. Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases, or dust.
  • Electrical Safety: Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way. Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling, or unplugging the power tool. Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges, or moving parts.
  • Personal Safety: Always wear eye protection. Use safety glasses, goggles, or a face shield. Wear hearing protection when operating the sander for extended periods. Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry. Keep your hair, clothing, and gloves away from moving parts.
  • Tool Use and Care: Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for your application. Disconnect the plug from the power source before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing power tools.
  • Maintenance: Maintain power tools. Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts, and any other condition that may affect the power tool’s operation.

5.2 Belt Sanding

The 4 x 36-inch belt is ideal for shaping, smoothing, and removing material from various workpieces.

  • Angle Adjustment: The belt assembly can tilt from 0 to 90 degrees, allowing for both horizontal and vertical sanding. Loosen the locking knob, adjust to the desired angle, and tighten securely.
  • Belt Tracking: Use the belt tracking knob to ensure the belt runs centrally on the rollers. Adjust as needed to prevent the belt from running off.
  • Quick Belt Replacement: The user-friendly design allows for quick and easy belt changes. Refer to the maintenance section for detailed steps.
  • Curved Workpieces: The driven drum at the end of the belt allows for sanding of curved workpieces.

5.3 Disc Sanding

The 6-inch disc sander is perfect for precise edge sanding, chamfering, and small detail work.

  • Worktable Angle: The disc worktable can be tilted from 0 to 45 degrees. Use the miter gauge for accurate angle sanding.
  • Miter Gauge Use: Insert the miter gauge into the slot on the worktable. Adjust the angle and secure it before sanding.

5.4 Dust Collection

The sander is equipped with separate dust collection ports for both the belt and disc. For optimal dust extraction, connect a shop vacuum or dust collector to these ports. The dust port on the belt sander can be removed to allow for sanding of larger objects.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your sander. Always disconnect the power before performing any maintenance.

  • Cleaning: Regularly clean dust and debris from the sander, especially around the belt and disc areas, and inside the dust ports. Use compressed air or a brush.
  • Belt Replacement: To replace the 4 x 36-inch belt, release the quick belt tension lever, slide off the old belt, and slide on the new one, ensuring the arrow on the belt matches the direction of rotation on the machine. Re-tension and adjust tracking.
  • Disc Replacement: To replace the 6-inch sanding disc, carefully peel off the old disc and apply a new adhesive-backed disc, aligning it properly.
  • Motor: The direct-drive motor is designed to be maintenance-free, eliminating the need for belt tension adjustments or replacement of damaged belts associated with traditional designs.
  • Worktables: Keep the cast aluminum worktables clean and free of debris to ensure smooth workpiece movement and accurate angles.
