1. Introduction

The Ascensia CONTOUR NEXT ONE Blood Glucose Monitoring System is designed to provide accurate blood glucose readings for individuals managing diabetes. This system combines a highly accurate meter with a smartphone application for simplified diabetes management. This manual provides essential instructions for the safe and effective use of your device.

The CONTOUR NEXT ONE system is intended for self-testing by people with diabetes at home and by healthcare professionals in clinical settings as an aid to monitor the effectiveness of diabetes control.

3. Setup

3.1. Battery Installation

The CONTOUR NEXT ONE meter requires 2 Lithium Ion batteries (included). Refer to the Quick Reference Guide for specific instructions on how to open the battery compartment and insert the batteries correctly. Ensure proper polarity.

3.2. Setting Up the Lancing Device

  1. Remove the lancing device cap.
  2. Insert a new MICROLET lancet firmly into the lancet holder.
  3. Twist off the protective cap from the lancet and save it for safe disposal.
  4. Replace the lancing device cap.
  5. Adjust the penetration depth setting on the lancing device to a comfortable level. Start with a shallower setting and increase if necessary.
  6. Pull back the cocking barrel until it clicks, indicating it is ready to use.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1. Performing a Blood Glucose Test

  1. Wash and dry your hands thoroughly before testing.
  2. Insert a CONTOUR NEXT test strip into the meter with the grey square end facing the meter. The meter will automatically turn on.
  3. When the blood drop symbol appears on the display, use the lancing device to obtain a blood sample from your fingertip.
  4. Immediately touch the tip of the test strip to the blood drop. The blood will be drawn into the strip. Hold the strip to the blood drop until the meter beeps.
  5. Your blood glucose reading will be displayed on the meter after a few seconds.

4.2. SmartLight Target Range Indicator

The SmartLight feature provides immediate feedback on your blood glucose readings:

  • Yellow Light: Indicates your blood glucose reading is above your target range.
  • Red Light: Indicates your blood glucose reading is below your target range.

4.3. Second-Chance Sampling

The Second-Chance Sampling feature allows you to apply more blood to the same test strip within 60 seconds if the initial sample was insufficient. This helps prevent wasting test strips and saves money.

5. Bluetooth Connectivity and App Integration

The CONTOUR NEXT ONE meter is Bluetooth enabled, allowing seamless wireless connection to a compatible smartphone or tablet via the free CONTOUR Diabetes App. This integration simplifies diabetes management by automatically syncing and logging blood glucose results.

6. Maintenance

6.1. Cleaning the Meter

Clean the exterior of your meter regularly using a soft cloth dampened with water or a mild cleaning solution. Do not immerse the meter in water or use harsh chemicals. Ensure the test strip port is free from dust or debris.

6.2. Storage

Store the meter and test strips in the provided carrying case in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Keep test strips in their original vial and close the cap immediately after removing a strip to protect them from moisture.

6.3. Battery Replacement

Replace the batteries when the low battery indicator appears on the meter display. Use only the specified Lithium Ion batteries.
