3. Setup and Installation

Proper installation is crucial for optimal performance and safety. If you are unsure about any steps, consult a professional installer.

3.1 Mounting the Amplifier

The Reference 10001A features a low-profile chassis and a small footprint, allowing for versatile mounting options. Choose a location that is dry, well-ventilated, and protected from direct sunlight or excessive heat. Ensure sufficient space around the amplifier for air circulation.

  • Use the provided mounting screws to secure the amplifier to a solid surface.
  • Avoid mounting on carpet or other materials that could obstruct airflow.

3.2 Wiring Connections

Before making any connections, disconnect the vehicle's negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts.

  1. Power Connection: Connect a heavy-gauge power wire (typically 4-gauge or larger, depending on installation requirements) from the vehicle's positive battery terminal to the +12V terminal on the amplifier. Install an appropriate fuse holder with a fuse (not included) within 18 inches of the battery.
Note: The amplifier itself uses two 30A ATO fuses, which are pre-installed.
  2. Ground Connection: Connect a heavy-gauge ground wire of the same size as the power wire from the GND terminal on the amplifier to a clean, unpainted metal surface on the vehicle's chassis. Ensure a good electrical connection.
  3. Remote Turn-On Connection: Connect a remote turn-on wire from your head unit's remote output to the REM terminal on the amplifier. This wire signals the amplifier to turn on and off with your head unit.
  4. Audio Input:
    • Low-Level Input (RCA): If your head unit has RCA pre-outs, connect them to the INPUT RCA jacks on the amplifier.
    • Speaker-Level Input: If your head unit does not have RCA pre-outs, use the provided bare wire-to-RCA adapters to connect your head unit's speaker outputs to the INPUT RCA jacks. This allows integration with factory car stereo systems.
  5. Speaker Output: Connect your subwoofer(s) to the SUB terminals on the amplifier. Ensure correct polarity (+ to + and - to -).
  6. Remote Bass Control: Connect the remote bass control module to the REMOTE CONTROL port on the amplifier using the provided RJ-25 cable. Mount the remote bass control in a convenient location for easy adjustment from the driver's seat.

4. Operating Instructions

Once installed, configure the amplifier settings for optimal audio performance.

4.1 Initial Power-Up

  1. Reconnect the vehicle's negative battery terminal.
  2. Turn on your head unit. The amplifier should power on, indicated by the PWR/PROT LED. If the PROT (Protection) LED illuminates, refer to the Troubleshooting section.

4.2 Adjusting Settings

The Reference 10001A features variable electronic crossovers and bass boost circuits for precise system tuning.

  • Gain Control: Adjust the gain control to match the output voltage of your head unit. Start with the gain at minimum and slowly increase it until you achieve a clean, undistorted sound at your desired volume level.
  • Low-Pass Filter (LPF): This amplifier includes a variable low-pass filter. Adjust it to allow only the desired low frequencies to pass to the subwoofer. A common starting point is between 80Hz and 120Hz, but this may vary based on your subwoofer and full-range speakers.
  • Bass Boost: Use the variable bass boost to enhance low-frequency output. Use this feature sparingly to avoid distortion and potential damage to your subwoofer.
  • Phase Switch: The phase switch (0°/180°) helps ensure that the subwoofer's output blends seamlessly with your full-range speakers. Experiment with both settings to find the one that provides the most cohesive and impactful bass.
  • Remote Bass Control: Use the wired remote to conveniently adjust the subwoofer's output level from the driver's seat.

The amplifier utilizes Balanced Differential Inputs, which help reduce noise and distortion, even at high output levels, and minimize susceptibility to engine noise.

5. Maintenance

The Infinity Reference-10001A amplifier is designed for reliable operation with minimal maintenance. Follow these guidelines to ensure its longevity:

  • Keep the amplifier clean and free from dust and debris. Use a soft, dry cloth for cleaning.
  • Ensure proper ventilation around the amplifier to prevent overheating. Do not block cooling fins or vents.
  • Periodically check all wiring connections for tightness and corrosion. Loose connections can cause performance issues or damage.
  • If a fuse blows, replace it only with a fuse of the same type and rating (30A ATO). Using an incorrect fuse can cause serious damage or fire.

6. Troubleshooting

If you experience problems with your amplifier, consult this section before contacting support.
