1. Introduction

3. Setup Instructions

3.1 Initial Charging

3.5 Sensor Placement

Choose an outdoor location for the sensor where it will receive adequate direct sunlight for solar charging and be in close proximity to your plants. The sensor is designed to be UV-resistant and weather-resistant.

To insert the sensor into the soil:

  1. Identify a suitable spot near the plant you wish to monitor.
  2. Gently push the sensor's blade into the soil, ensuring it is inserted perpendicularly to the ground. Avoid inserting at an angle to prevent undue stress on the blade.
  3. Ensure the solar panel is exposed to direct sunlight for optimal charging.

4. Operation

4.1 Data Monitoring

Once set up, the Netro Whisperer sensor will periodically collect data on soil moisture, ambient temperature, and sunlight conditions. This data is transmitted to your Netro account via WiFi.

4.2 Accessing Data via Netro App

Open the Netro app on your iOS or Android device to view real-time and historical data from your sensor. The app provides a dashboard displaying current conditions and trends, allowing you to make informed decisions about plant care.

4.3 Integration with Netro Watering Devices

The Whisperer sensor can operate as a standalone monitoring device or integrate with Netro Sprite/Spark and Pixie smart watering devices. When paired, one Whisperer sensor can provide data for up to three watering zones, enabling more precise and efficient irrigation schedules based on actual environmental conditions.

5. Maintenance

5.1 Cleaning

Periodically inspect the sensor for dirt, debris, or plant growth that may obstruct the solar panel or sensors. Gently clean the exterior with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.

5.2 Solar Panel Exposure

Ensure the solar panel remains unobstructed and receives adequate direct sunlight throughout the day to maintain optimal battery charge. Trim any overhanging foliage if necessary.

5.3 Battery Life

The internal Lithium Ion battery is designed for long-term use. If the sensor consistently reports low battery or fails to charge via solar power, consider bringing it indoors for a full USB charge. If issues persist, contact Netro support.

6. Troubleshooting

6.1 Sensor Not Connecting to WiFi

  • Check WiFi Signal: Ensure the sensor is within range of your 2.4GHz WiFi network.
  • Router Settings: Verify your router is broadcasting a 2.4GHz signal and that there are no MAC address filtering or other security settings preventing connection.
  • Re-attempt Setup: Follow the in-app instructions to re-add the sensor.

6.2 Incorrect or Inconsistent Readings

  • Sensor Placement: Ensure the sensor is inserted correctly and deeply enough into the soil. Uneven insertion or shallow placement can affect moisture readings.

  • Cleanliness: Ensure the sensor probes and solar panel are clean and free from debris.

  • USB Charging: If solar charging is insufficient, bring the sensor indoors and charge it via the USB port until fully charged.
  • Cable/Adapter: Ensure the USB cable and power adapter are functional.

  • Protective Cap: Ensure the rubber cap covering the power button and USB port is properly aligned and not interfering with button press.
  • Firm Press: Apply a firm, sustained press to the power button.
