2.3 Signal Wire Installation

The signal wire detects engine activity. The inductive cable is 68.8 inches (1.75m) long and can be shortened or extended as needed.

  1. Locate the spark plug wire on your engine.
  2. Wrap the inductive cable around the spark plug wire approximately 5-7 times.
  3. Secure the wrapped cable using the provided cable ties to prevent it from unwrapping or interfering with moving parts.
  4. Ensure the alligator clip is securely attached to a metal part of the engine for grounding, if applicable to your model.

The unit is compatible with 13 types of gas engines:

  • 2-stroke engines: 1, 2, 3, 4, 6 cylinders.
  • 4-stroke engines: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 12, 16 cylinders.

3. Operating Instructions

3.1 Display Modes

The RL-HM068A cycles through different display modes. When the engine is off, it typically displays total hours (TOT). When the engine is running, it displays real-time RPM.

Diagram showing the LCD working display transitioning from standby (TOT) to working (RPM) mode.
Figure 5: This image illustrates the LCD working display. In standby, it shows "TOT" (total hours) as 0.0. When connected to an engine and the engine is running, it displays real-time RPM, for example, 3000 RPM.

3.2 Hour Meter (TOT)

The Total Hours (TOT) display tracks the cumulative operating time of the engine. This value is non-resettable. The hour range is 0-99999H. The initial hours can be set when replacing a new meter.

3.3 Job Timer (TMR)

The Job Timer (TMR) allows you to track the operating time for specific tasks or work periods. This timer is resettable.

To Reset the Job Timer:

  • While in the Job Timer display mode, press and hold the "S" button until the display resets to 0.0.

Figure 6: This image demonstrates the Job Timer function. It shows the meter displaying "TMR 1 26.8" and indicates that pressing and holding the "S" button will reset the timer to 00000, allowing for tracking of partial hours during a single working period.

3.4 Tachometer (RPM)

The tachometer measures and records engine RPMs, ranging from 0 to 25000 RPM. The refresh rate can be selected between 0.5 and 1 second. An alert range can be set from 100-25000 RPM.

3.5 Maintenance Reminder (SVC)

The maintenance reminder feature tracks a countdown to your next service interval. The maintenance timer range is 0 to 2000 hours. When the set service interval is reached, the display will alert you.
