  • Quick Start Guide

3.2 Connecting the EVO 8

Connect the EVO 8 to your computer using the provided USB-C to USB-A cable. For optimal performance, especially with AMD setups, a USB-C Female to 3.1 Male adapter may be required to ensure stable connectivity and prevent latency issues. The EVO 8 is bus-powered via USB, but for full 48V phantom power on all four channels, a USB-C to USB-C connection is recommended if your computer supports it.

3.3 Driver Installation

Before connecting your EVO 8, download and install the latest drivers and the EVO software mixer from the official Audient website. This software is crucial for controlling the interface's features and routing audio.

3.4 Connecting Microphones and Instruments

  • Microphones: Plug your XLR microphones into the combo jacks (Inputs 1-4) on the rear panel. For condenser microphones, ensure 48V phantom power is enabled for the respective input.
  • Instruments: Connect your guitar or bass directly into the JFET instrument input (Input 1) on the front panel.

3.5 Connecting Headphones and Speakers

  • Speakers: Connect your studio monitors to the 1/4-inch line outputs (1L/2R, 3L/4R) on the rear panel.

4. Operation

4.1 Smartgain

The Smartgain feature automatically sets the gain for your inputs. To use it, simply press the Smartgain button (green microphone icon) and play or sing into your microphone/instrument. The EVO 8 will analyze the input and set the optimal gain level in seconds.

4.2 Controlling Input Levels and Monitor Mix

The large central knob controls various parameters depending on the selected mode. Press the numbered buttons (1-4) to select an input and then turn the knob to adjust its gain. Use the monitor buttons to control headphone and speaker output levels. The EVO software mixer provides a visual interface for all controls, allowing for precise adjustments and routing.

4.3 EVO Software Mixer

The EVO software mixer provides comprehensive control over your audio routing and levels. You can adjust individual input gains, mute/solo channels, and manage the master mix. For stereo inputs (like gaming audio from a PC), you can link two mono inputs (e.g., 3 and 4) to create a stereo track within the software.

To ensure all audio from your streaming PC is heard through the EVO 8, set the loop-back source in the EVO software to 'Loop-back 1+2' or 'Master Mix'. This routes your PC's audio back into the interface for monitoring and streaming.

5. Troubleshooting

  • Noisy Preamps/Audio Issues: Ensure all cables are securely connected. For AMD systems, consider using a USB-C to USB-A 3.1 adapter to resolve potential latency or glitching issues.
  • No Sound/Microphone Input: Verify that the correct input is selected on the EVO 8 and in your computer's sound settings. Check phantom power for condenser microphones. Ensure the EVO software mixer is running and configured correctly.
  • Software Slowness: Update your computer's drivers, especially USB and chipset drivers. Close unnecessary background applications.
  • Ground Loop Noise: If you experience humming or buzzing, consider using a ground loop noise isolator on the audio connections between your PC and the EVO 8.
