Operating Instructions
The ExpertPower Smart Charger operates with a three-stage charging mode to optimize battery life and performance.
- Charging Stage (Red LED): When the charger is connected to a battery and plugged into power, the LED will illuminate RED. This indicates that the battery is actively being charged. The charger delivers a constant current until the battery voltage reaches a predetermined level.
- Absorption Stage: Once the battery reaches a certain voltage, the charger switches to a constant voltage mode, allowing the battery to absorb the remaining charge at a decreasing current. The LED will remain RED during this phase.
- Float/Maintenance Stage (Green LED): When the battery is fully charged, the LED will turn GREEN. The charger automatically switches to a float charging mode, maintaining the battery at its proper storage voltage without overcharging. This allows the charger to be left connected indefinitely, keeping the battery fully charged.
The charger is designed to prevent overcharging, ensuring the longevity of your battery.
Maintenance
Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and reliable operation of your charger.
- Cleaning: Disconnect the charger from power and the battery before cleaning. Wipe the exterior with a dry, soft cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
- Storage: Store the charger in a cool, dry place when not in use. Keep cables neatly coiled and avoid sharp bends.
- Cable Inspection: Periodically inspect the AC cord and DC output cables for any signs of damage, fraying, or exposed wires. Do not use if damaged.
- Battery Terminals: Ensure battery terminals are clean and free of corrosion for optimal connection.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your charger, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| LED does not light up. | No power to charger, or charger not connected to battery. | Ensure charger is securely plugged into a live AC outlet. Verify battery connections are secure and correct polarity. |
| LED remains RED for an extended period. | Battery is deeply discharged or has a high capacity. | This is normal for deeply discharged or larger capacity batteries. Allow more time for charging. If it remains red for an unusually long time (e.g., over 24 hours for a small battery), the battery may be faulty. |
| LED immediately turns GREEN after connecting. | Battery is already fully charged, or battery is faulty. | If the battery is known to be discharged, it may be faulty and unable to accept a charge. Test the battery with a different method if possible. |
| Charger feels warm during operation. | Normal operation. | It is normal for the charger to become warm during the charging process. Ensure it has adequate ventilation. If it becomes excessively hot or emits smoke/odor, disconnect immediately. |
If the problem persists after attempting these solutions, please contact ExpertPower customer support.
