Muzata CK07 Cable Railing Hardware Kit Instruction Manual

Model: MZZ166B

1. Product Overview

The Muzata CK07 Cable Railing Hardware Kit is designed for installing 1/8" wire rope in both multi-angled stairways and horizontal sections of deck cable railing systems. This kit features multi-angle and wide-adjustment capabilities, allowing the turnbuckle to rotate from 0-180 degrees and adjust freely from a maximum length of 10.1 inches to a minimum length of 6.8 inches. Constructed from T316 marine-grade stainless steel, these components offer durability and corrosion resistance, suitable for various outdoor environments. The design facilitates an easier installation process, particularly for wood posts and wood posts with sleeves.

  • 20 x Terminals
  • 80 x Screws
  • 1 x Bent Wrench

This package provides enough components for up to 20 cable runs. Please verify all contents upon opening the package.

3. Installation Guide

This cable railing kit is designed for straightforward installation without the need for pre-drilling. The wide adjustable range simplifies the process, especially for new users. Follow these steps for proper installation:

  1. Swage the Fixed End Terminal: Securely swage the fixed end terminal onto one end of your 1/8" wire rope. A hydraulic crimper (e.g., Muzata CR09) is recommended for this step.
  2. Mount the Terminal with Screws: Attach the swaged terminal to your wood post using the provided screws. Ensure the cable spacing does not exceed 4 inches to meet safety standards.
  3. Install the Tensioner: Thread the other end of the wire rope through the posts and attach it to the tensioner component.
  4. Loosen and Cut Cable: Loosen the tensioner slightly and mark the cable at point 'A' (the desired cut point). Cut the cable to the precise length.
  5. Swage with Crimper: Swage the cut end of the cable to the tensioner using a hydraulic crimper (e.g., Muzata CR09).
  6. Tighten with Bent Wrench: Use the included bent wrench to tighten the turnbuckle, applying tension to the cable. An allen wrench (not included) can be used alongside the bent wrench for additional leverage and easier tightening.

This kit is suitable for both bare wood posts and wood posts with sleeves.

4. System Recommendations

For building a complete and aesthetically pleasing WoodBlack cable railing system, Muzata recommends combining the CK07 kit with the following products:

  • Black Angle Protector Sleeve: Muzata CR70
  • Black Level Protector Sleeve: Muzata CR88
  • 1/8" Vinyl Coated Black Wire Rope: Muzata WR22
  • Hydraulic Crimper with Cable Cutter: Muzata CK12 (for swaging and cutting)
  • Drill Guide: Muzata CT24 (for precise hole drilling, if needed for other components)

These combinations ensure compatibility and optimal performance for your railing project.

5. Care and Maintenance

The Muzata CK07 cable railing hardware is made from T316 marine-grade stainless steel, offering excellent corrosion resistance. To maintain its appearance and longevity:

  • Regular Cleaning: Clean the components periodically with mild soap and water. Rinse thoroughly with fresh water and dry with a soft cloth to prevent water spots.
  • Avoid Harsh Chemicals: Do not use abrasive cleaners, steel wool, or harsh chemicals, as these can damage the finish and compromise the stainless steel's protective layer.
  • Inspect for Wear: Annually inspect all components for any signs of wear, corrosion, or loosening. Tighten any loose connections as needed.

6. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues during or after installation, consider the following:

  • Insufficient Cable Tension: Ensure the turnbuckles are tightened sufficiently. If the cable feels loose, re-tighten the turnbuckle using the bent wrench, potentially with an additional allen wrench for leverage.
  • Cable Length Issues: The wide adjustable range of the turnbuckle helps compensate for minor inaccuracies in cable cutting. If the cable is too short, a new cable run may be required. If too long, ensure the turnbuckle is fully tightened.
  • Post Spacing: Post spacing should not exceed 4 feet. If your posts are further apart, additional support or a different system configuration may be necessary.
  • Cable Spacing: Cable spacing should not exceed 4 inches to pass the 4-inch sphere test for safety. Adjust cable runs if necessary.
  • Long Spans: The maximum tensioning span for a single CK07 kit is 30 feet. For distances over 30 feet, or if there are corners or angle changes, a new installation with another cable railing kit is required to ensure safety and structural integrity. Terminate the cable at each corner.
