Upon unboxing your Retevis RT85 Ham Radios, you should find the following items:

4. Setup and Getting Started

4.1 Battery Installation and Charging

Before first use, ensure the battery is fully charged. Attach the battery to the radio by aligning the contacts and sliding it into place until it clicks securely. Place the radio with the battery attached into the charging base. Connect the power adapter to the charging base and a power outlet.

4.2 Attaching the Antenna and Belt Clip

Screw the antenna clockwise onto the top connector of the radio until it is finger-tight. The belt clip attaches to the back of the battery. Secure it using the provided screws.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Basic Operation

To power on the radio, rotate the Power/Volume knob clockwise. The LCD display will illuminate. Rotate the knob further to adjust the volume.

5.2 VFO Mode and Frequency Entry

To enter VFO mode, short press the '#' (pound) button on the keypad. If this does not work, turn the radio off, then press and hold '1' and '7' simultaneously while turning the radio back on. This should unlock VFO mode. Once in VFO mode, you can directly input frequencies using the numeric keypad.

5.3 Dual-Band and Dual Display

The RT85 features dual-band and dual-display capabilities, allowing you to monitor two frequencies simultaneously. Use the A/B button to switch between the upper and lower display frequencies.

5.4 Communication with Other Radios

To communicate with other walkie-talkies, ensure both radios are set to the same frequency and CTCSS/DCS tones if applicable. Press and hold the PTT (Push-to-Talk) button on the side of the radio to transmit, and release to listen.

5.5 CHIRP Software Programming

The Retevis RT85 supports programming via CHIRP software, allowing for advanced customization of channels, frequencies, and settings. Connect the radio to your computer using a compatible programming cable. Refer to the CHIRP software documentation for detailed programming instructions.

6. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your Retevis RT85 radios, follow these maintenance guidelines:

  • Keep the radio clean by wiping it with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals.
  • Do not disassemble the radio. Unauthorized disassembly voids the warranty.
  • Store the radio in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Ensure the battery contacts are clean and free of debris.
