6. Maintenance
6.1 Cleaning
- Always unplug the kettle from the power outlet and allow it to cool completely before cleaning.
- Exterior: Wipe the exterior of the kettle with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads as they may scratch the surface.
- Interior: The interior of the kettle can be hand washed with warm, soapy water and a soft sponge. Rinse thoroughly.
- Never immerse the kettle body or the power base in water or any other liquid.
6.2 Descaling
Over time, mineral deposits (limescale) may build up inside the kettle, especially in hard water areas. This can affect performance and taste. Descale your kettle regularly (e.g., monthly or bi-monthly) using one of the following methods:
- Vinegar Method: Fill the kettle with 2 cups of white vinegar and 2 cups of water. Bring to a boil and let it stand for 30 minutes. Discard the solution and rinse the kettle thoroughly several times with fresh water.
- Lemon Juice Method: Fill the kettle with water and add the juice of one lemon (or 2 tablespoons of citric acid). Bring to a boil and let it stand for 15 minutes. Discard the solution and rinse thoroughly.
After descaling, boil a fresh pot of water and discard it before using the kettle for beverages.
