Introduction
The TP-Link N300 WiFi Extender (RE105) is designed to expand your existing Wi-Fi network coverage, eliminating dead zones and providing reliable wireless connectivity throughout your home. Despite its compact size, the RE105 projects Wi-Fi access into areas your standard router may not reach, supporting wireless speeds of up to 300Mbps.
Key Features
- Extended WiFi Coverage: Boosts Internet Wi-Fi coverage with two external antennas for more reliable Wi-Fi, compatible with any Wi-Fi Router, Gateway, or Access Point.
- Versatile Modes: Functions as both a Wi-Fi Repeater to expand network coverage and an Access Point (AP) to create a new Wi-Fi hotspot from an Ethernet connection.
- Fast Ethernet Port: Provides wired speed and reliability for devices like smart TVs, gaming consoles, or PCs.
- Enhanced Range: Two external antennas with MIMO technology improve range compared to standard range extenders.
- Easy Setup: Quick and easy setup and management via the TP-Link Tether app (Android, iOS).
- Optimal Placement Indicator: An intelligent LED indicator helps users find the best location for optimal Wi-Fi connection.
What's in the Box
- 1 x TP-Link RE105 N300Mbps Wi-Fi Range Extender
- 1 x Quick Installation Guide
Setup Guide
1. Unboxing and Initial Placement
Carefully remove the RE105 extender and the Quick Installation Guide from the packaging. Identify a suitable location for the extender. For optimal performance, place the RE105 halfway between your router and the Wi-Fi dead zone. The intelligent LED indicator on the device will help you determine the best spot.

2. Connecting to Your Network (WPS Method)
- Plug the RE105 into an electrical outlet.
- Press the WPS button on your main Wi-Fi router.
- Within two minutes, press the Range Extender button (WPS button) on the RE105.
- The Signal LED on the RE105 should turn solid green, indicating a successful connection.
3. Connecting to Your Network (TP-Link Tether App Method)
- Download the TP-Link Tether app from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android).
- Plug the RE105 into an electrical outlet near your router.
- Open the Tether app and follow the on-screen instructions to set up your RE105. The app will guide you through connecting to the extender's default Wi-Fi network and then configuring it to extend your main router's network.
- Once configured, relocate the RE105 to an optimal location using the intelligent LED indicator as a guide.
Operating Modes
1. Repeater Mode (Default)
In Repeater Mode, the RE105 extends the existing Wi-Fi signal from your main router to eliminate Wi-Fi dead zones. This mode is ideal for expanding coverage to areas with weak signals, such as distant rooms or multiple floors.

2. Access Point (AP) Mode
The RE105 can also function as an Access Point. In AP Mode, it converts a wired internet connection into a wireless Wi-Fi hotspot. This is useful in rooms where you have an Ethernet port but no Wi-Fi, allowing you to create a new Wi-Fi network for your wireless devices.

To switch to AP Mode, connect an Ethernet cable from your router (or any active Ethernet port) to the Ethernet port on the RE105. Then, use the Tether app or the web interface to configure the RE105 to Access Point mode.
Maintenance
- Firmware Updates: Regularly check for and install firmware updates via the TP-Link Tether app or the official TP-Link website to ensure optimal performance and security.
- Cleaning: Keep the device clean and free from dust. Use a soft, dry cloth for cleaning. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosols.
- Ventilation: Ensure the RE105 is placed in a well-ventilated area to prevent overheating. Avoid covering the ventilation holes.
- Power Cycle: If the device experiences issues, try power cycling it by unplugging it from the outlet for 10 seconds and then plugging it back in.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Solution |
|---|---|
| No Power / Device Not Turning On | Ensure the RE105 is securely plugged into a working electrical outlet. Try a different outlet. |
| Weak Signal / Frequent Disconnections | Relocate the RE105 closer to your main router. Use the intelligent LED indicator to find an optimal spot where the signal is strong (green light). Ensure there are no major obstructions (thick walls, large metal objects) between the extender and the router. |
| Cannot Connect to Extended Network | Verify that the RE105 is properly configured and connected to your main router. Try resetting the extender to factory defaults (refer to the Quick Installation Guide for reset instructions) and re-configure it. Ensure you are selecting the correct extended network name (SSID). |
| Slow Speeds on Extended Network | While extenders improve coverage, they do not directly increase internet speed. Ensure the RE105 is placed in a location where it receives a strong signal from the main router. Minimize interference from other electronic devices. Consider upgrading your main router if speeds are consistently low. |
| WPS Setup Fails | Ensure your router supports WPS and that you are pressing the WPS button on both devices within the two-minute window. If WPS continues to fail, use the TP-Link Tether app or a web browser to set up the extender manually. |
