Setup and Installation
Follow these steps carefully to install your Cooler Master MasterLiquid ML240L V2 ARGB CPU Cooler.
1. Prepare the CPU Socket
Identify your CPU socket type (Intel or AMD) and prepare the corresponding mounting hardware.
For Intel Sockets (LGA 2066 / 2011-v3 / 2011 / 1151 / 1150 / 1155 / 1156 / 1200):
- Attach the Intel backplate to the rear of your motherboard, aligning the screws through the mounting holes.
- Secure the blue standoffs onto the backplate screws from the front side of the motherboard.
- Place the Intel mounting brackets onto the standoffs.
For AMD Sockets (AM4 / AM3+ / AM3 / AM2+ / AM2 / FM2+ / FM2 / FM1):
- Remove the existing plastic retention brackets from your motherboard, but retain the original backplate.
- Secure the red standoffs onto the original backplate screws from the front side of the motherboard.
- Place the AMD mounting brackets onto the standoffs.
2. Apply Thermal Paste
Apply a small amount of the provided thermal paste to the center of your CPU's Integrated Heat Spreader (IHS). A pea-sized dot is usually sufficient.
3. Install the Water Block
- Remove the protective sticker from the copper cold plate of the water block.
- Carefully align the water block with the mounting screws/brackets on the motherboard.
- Gently place the water block onto the CPU, ensuring even contact.
- Secure the water block by tightening the four nuts onto the mounting screws/brackets in a diagonal pattern until snug. Do not overtighten.

4. Mount the Radiator and Fans
- Attach the two SickleFlow 120 ARGB fans to the radiator using the longer screws. Ensure the fan airflow direction is appropriate for your case (typically exhausting air out of the case).
- Mount the radiator assembly to an available 240mm fan mount location in your PC case (e.g., top or front panel) using the shorter radiator screws.

5. Connect Cables
- Connect the 4-pin PWM cable from the pump to the CPU_OPT or AIO_PUMP header on your motherboard.
- Connect the 4-pin PWM cables from both fans to the included fan splitter cable, then connect the splitter cable to the CPU_FAN header on your motherboard.
- Connect the 3-pin ARGB cables from the pump and both fans to the included ARGB controller.
- Connect the ARGB controller to an available 3-pin +5V ARGB header on your motherboard for software control, or use the controller's buttons for manual control.

Operating Instructions
Once installed, the Cooler Master MasterLiquid ML240L V2 ARGB will automatically begin cooling your CPU upon system startup. The pump and fans will adjust their speed based on CPU temperature, controlled by your motherboard's PWM settings.
ARGB Lighting Control:
The Addressable RGB lighting can be controlled in two ways:
- Motherboard Software Sync: If connected to a compatible 3-pin +5V ARGB header on your motherboard, you can use your motherboard's RGB software (e.g., ASUS Aura Sync, MSI Mystic Light Sync, GIGABYTE RGB Fusion, ASRock Polychrome Sync) to customize lighting effects and synchronize them with other ARGB components.
- Included ARGB Controller: If your motherboard does not have a compatible ARGB header, or if you prefer manual control, use the included ARGB controller to cycle through various lighting modes, colors, and effects.
Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and longevity of your CPU cooler.
- Dust Cleaning: Periodically clean dust from the radiator fins and fan blades using compressed air or a soft brush. Ensure fans are not spinning during cleaning.
- Leak Check: While the unit features enhanced sealing to prevent leaks, it is good practice to visually inspect the tubing and connections for any signs of moisture or damage during routine PC maintenance.
- Thermal Paste: Reapply thermal paste if you remove the water block for any reason.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your Cooler Master MasterLiquid ML240L V2 ARGB, refer to the following common solutions:
- No Power/Fans Not Spinning: Ensure all power cables (pump PWM, fan PWM) are securely connected to the correct headers on the motherboard. Check your motherboard's BIOS settings to ensure fan headers are enabled and configured correctly.
- Poor Cooling Performance: Verify that the water block is making proper contact with the CPU and that thermal paste was applied correctly. Ensure fans are spinning and oriented to provide adequate airflow through the radiator. Check for dust buildup on the radiator fins.
- ARGB Lighting Not Working/Incorrect: Confirm that all ARGB cables are securely connected to the ARGB controller and/or the motherboard's 3-pin +5V ARGB header. If using motherboard software, ensure it is up-to-date and correctly configured. If using the controller, try cycling through modes.
- Unusual Noises: Check for any obstructions in the fan blades. Ensure the pump is securely mounted and not vibrating against other components. A slight gurgling sound during initial startup is normal as air bubbles are purged from the loop.
