2. Setup

2.1 Winding the Automatic Movement

Your Spinnaker Hull watch is powered by an automatic mechanical movement, which means it winds itself with the motion of your wrist. If the watch has stopped or has not been worn for an extended period, it may require manual winding to initiate the power reserve.

  • To manually wind, ensure the crown is in position 0 (fully pushed in).
  • Turn the crown clockwise approximately 20-30 times. This will build up a sufficient power reserve to start the watch.
  • Once started, normal daily wear will keep the watch wound.

2.2 Setting Time and Date

To set the time and date on your watch:

  1. Position 0 (Normal Operating Position): Crown is fully pushed in.
  2. Position 1 (Date Setting Position): Gently pull the crown out to the first click. Turn the crown clockwise or counter-clockwise to adjust the date. Avoid setting the date between 9 PM and 3 AM, as this can damage the movement. If the time is within this window, adjust the time outside of it first, set the date, then reset the time.
  3. Position 2 (Time Setting Position): Pull the crown out to the second click. The second hand will stop. Turn the crown to set the hour and minute hands. To ensure correct AM/PM, advance the time until the date changes. This indicates midnight. Continue to set the correct time.
  4. Once time and date are set, push the crown back into Position 0.

3. Operating Your Watch

3.1 Automatic Movement

The Japan Seiko NH35 automatic movement in your Spinnaker watch is a reliable self-winding mechanism. It gains power from the natural motion of your arm. When fully wound, it has a power reserve that allows it to run for approximately 41 hours without being worn. If the watch is not worn for an extended period, it will stop and require manual winding or wearing to restart.

3.2 Water Resistance (100M)

Your Spinnaker Hull watch is rated for 100 meters (330 feet) of water resistance. This rating makes it suitable for:

  • Everyday use, including splashes and rain.
  • Swimming and snorkeling.
  • Showering (though not recommended due to potential soap/shampoo residue affecting seals).

Important: Do not operate the crown or pushers (if applicable) while the watch is submerged or wet, as this can compromise the water resistance. Always ensure the crown is fully pushed in before exposing the watch to water.

3.3 Luminous Display

The hands and hour markers of your Spinnaker Hull watch are treated with luminous material, providing visibility in low-light conditions. Exposure to light (natural or artificial) will charge the luminous elements, causing them to glow in the dark.

4. Maintenance

4.1 Cleaning Your Watch

To keep your watch in pristine condition:

  • Wipe the case and bracelet regularly with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust, sweat, and fingerprints.
  • For stainless steel parts, a slightly damp cloth can be used, followed by a dry cloth.
  • Avoid using harsh chemicals, solvents, or abrasive cleaners, as these can damage the watch's finish and seals.

4.2 Storage

When not wearing your watch, store it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, extreme temperatures, and strong magnetic fields. A watch box or a soft pouch is ideal to protect it from scratches and dust.

4.3 Periodic Servicing

Like any precision instrument, your automatic watch benefits from periodic servicing. It is recommended to have your watch serviced by an authorized watchmaker every 3-5 years to ensure the movement remains lubricated and accurate, and that water resistance seals are intact.

4.4 Maintaining Water Resistance

The water resistance of your watch is not permanent and may decrease over time due to wear and tear on gaskets. To help maintain it:

  • Avoid exposing the watch to sudden temperature changes (e.g., hot shower then cold water).
  • Have the gaskets checked and replaced during routine servicing.
  • Rinse the watch with fresh water after exposure to saltwater.
