7. Operating Instructions

7.1 Powering On

After all wiring is complete and verified, connect the controller to the 110V AC power supply. The digital displays will illuminate, showing the current and set parameters.

7.2 Display Overview

  • The upper left display (PV TEMP) shows the current temperature inside the incubator.
  • The upper right display (PV WET%) shows the current humidity inside the incubator.
  • The lower left display (SV TEMP) shows the set target temperature.
  • The lower right display (SV WET%) shows the set target humidity.
  • Pressing the 'UP' or 'DOWN' buttons will cycle through displaying the total egg turning times and the number of incubation days.

7.3 Setting Parameters

To adjust the incubation parameters:

  1. Press the 'SET' button to enter the parameter setting mode. The first parameter will begin to flash.
  2. Use the 'UP' and 'DOWN' buttons to adjust the desired value for the flashing parameter.
  3. Press 'OK' to confirm the setting for the current parameter and move to the next parameter.
  4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 for all parameters you wish to adjust. Parameters include:
    • Temperature Set Point: The desired temperature for incubation.
    • Humidity Set Point: The desired humidity level.
    • Egg Turning Cycle: The time interval (in minutes) between automatic egg turns (e.g., 90 minutes).
    • Egg Turning Period: The duration (in seconds) of each egg turning action (e.g., 180 seconds).
    • Air Exchange Cycle: The time interval (in minutes) between automatic air exchanges.
    • Air Exchange Period: The duration (in seconds) of each air exchange action.
  5. After setting all desired parameters, press 'SET' again to exit the setting mode and save your changes.

7.4 Incubation Modes

The XM-18D controller offers six pre-programmed incubation modes tailored for different poultry types, as well as a user-defined mode:

  • Goose
  • Pigeon
  • Blackcock
  • User-defined (for custom settings)

Refer to the controller's internal menu or specific button combinations (usually involving the 'SET' and 'UP'/'DOWN' buttons) to select the appropriate incubation mode for your eggs.

8. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your XM-18D controller.

  • Cleaning: Periodically wipe the exterior of the controller with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners, solvents, or immerse the unit in water.
  • Sensor Care: Keep the temperature and humidity sensors clean and free from dust, debris, or moisture buildup. Avoid bending or damaging the sensor probes.
  • Ventilation: Ensure that the controller's ventilation openings are not blocked to allow for proper airflow and prevent internal overheating.
  • Wiring Inspection: Periodically check all electrical connections for tightness, signs of wear, or corrosion. Re-tighten any loose connections.

9. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your XM-18D controller, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

  • No Power/Display Off:
    • Check the main power supply connection to the controller.
    • Verify that the power outlet is functional.
    • Ensure any integrated circuit breaker on the controller is in the 'ON' position.
  • Inaccurate Temperature/Humidity Readings:
    • Ensure both temperature and humidity sensors are correctly connected to the controller.
    • Check if the sensors are clean and free from obstructions.
    • Verify the placement of the sensors within the incubator for optimal and representative readings.
  • Heating/Humidity Elements Not Activating:
    • Check the set temperature and humidity points; ensure they are above/below the current readings as needed.
    • Verify the wiring connections from the controller to the heating and humidity elements.
    • Test the heating and humidity elements independently to ensure they are functional.
  • Egg Turning Not Working:
    • Review the egg turning cycle and period settings in the controller's menu.
    • Verify the wiring connections from the controller to the egg turning motor.
    • Ensure the egg turning mechanism and motor are not obstructed or jammed.
  • Continuous Alarm Sound:
    • Check the current temperature and humidity readings against the set points. The alarm may indicate over-temperature, insufficient temperature, or abnormal humidity.
    • Adjust set points if necessary or address environmental factors causing the deviation.
