Installation Steps:

  1. Preparation: Ensure the boat's power supply to the toilet system is completely disconnected. Close all seacocks related to the toilet.
  2. Remove Manual Pump: Carefully disconnect the inlet and outlet hoses from the existing manual pump assembly. Remove the bolts securing the manual pump to the toilet and the base.
  3. Install Electric Pump: Position the new electric conversion kit where the manual pump was located. The kit is designed to fit directly in place of Jabsco or SEAFLO manual pumps. Secure the electric pump to the toilet and the base using appropriate fasteners.
  4. Connect Hoses: Reconnect the inlet and outlet hoses to the corresponding ports on the electric pump. Ensure all connections are secure and watertight to prevent leaks.
  5. Electrical Wiring: Connect the 12V DC power supply to the electric pump. The 12V model draws approximately 20 amps. Ensure proper wire gauge is used and connections are secure and protected from moisture. It is recommended to install an appropriate fuse (e.g., 25 amp for 12V) in the circuit.
  6. Testing: Once installed, open the seacocks and restore power. Perform a test flush to check for proper operation and any leaks.

Operating Instructions

The electric conversion kit features a simple rotary control for operation. This control allows for two primary functions: flushing with water and discharging waste, or discharging waste only.

Flushing Procedure:

  1. To Flush with Water: Turn the rotary control knob clockwise. This activates both the water intake and the macerator pump, allowing fresh water to enter the bowl while simultaneously macerating and discharging waste.
  2. To Discharge Only (No Water): Turn the rotary control knob counter-clockwise. This activates only the macerator pump, discharging waste without adding fresh water to the bowl. This setting is useful for emptying the bowl quickly or for conserving water.
  3. Optimal Flushing: For thorough cleaning and to prevent unpleasant odors, it is recommended to hold the pump on for an additional 10 seconds after the bowl appears clear when flushing with water. This ensures all contents are fully pumped through the hoses.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and efficient operation of your SEAFLO Electric Marine Toilet Conversion Kit.

  • Regular Cleaning: Clean the toilet bowl regularly with marine-safe cleaning products. Avoid harsh chemicals that can damage rubber seals or plastic components.
  • Winterization: Before winter storage or periods of non-use in freezing temperatures, ensure the system is properly winterized. Flush the system with non-toxic antifreeze to prevent freezing and damage to the pump and hoses.
  • Check Connections: Periodically inspect all hose connections and electrical wiring for signs of wear, corrosion, or leaks. Tighten connections as necessary.
  • Impeller Inspection: If you notice reduced performance or unusual noises, the macerator impeller may need inspection or cleaning. Refer to a qualified marine technician for internal component maintenance.
  • Use Appropriate Toilet Paper: Only use marine-grade or RV-safe toilet paper that is designed to break down easily in marine sanitation systems. Regular household toilet paper can cause clogs and damage the macerator.

Troubleshooting

This section addresses common issues you might encounter with your electric toilet conversion kit.

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Pump does not operate. No power, blown fuse, loose wiring connection.Check power supply, inspect fuse and replace if blown, verify all electrical connections are secure.
Weak flush or slow discharge.Clogged intake or discharge hose, worn impeller, low voltage.Check hoses for obstructions. Inspect and clean/replace impeller if necessary. Ensure adequate voltage supply to the pump.
Unpleasant odors.Waste remaining in hoses, inadequate flushing, worn seals.Ensure sufficient flushing time (hold pump on for 10 seconds after bowl clears). Check and replace any worn seals. Use marine-safe odor control products.
Excessive noise during operation.Air in the system, foreign object in macerator, loose mounting.Check for air leaks in the intake line. Inspect macerator for foreign objects (disconnect power first). Ensure pump is securely mounted.
Water overflowing the bowl.Improper use of control, clogged discharge.Ensure control is set to 'flush & discharge' or 'discharge only' correctly. Check discharge hose for clogs.
