1. Introduction

The Phenyx Pro PTM-10 is a UHF stereo wireless in-ear monitor system designed for professional audio monitoring. It operates in the 900MHz band, providing clear and reliable audio transmission for various applications including stage performance, studio recording, and public speaking. This manual provides detailed instructions for setting up, operating, and maintaining your PTM-10 system.

2. Transmitter Overview

The PTM-10 transmitter is a robust metal unit designed for stable signal transmission. Familiarize yourself with its controls and connections:

Front Panel

  • Headphone Volume Control: Adjusts the volume for the headphone jack.
  • Headphone Jack: 3.5mm output for direct monitoring.
  • Input Volume Control: Adjusts the input level from your audio source.
  • LCD Screen: Displays frequency, group, channel, and other system details.
  • Up/Down Buttons: Navigate menus and adjust settings.
  • SET Button: Confirms selections and enters menu options.
  • IR Window: For infrared synchronization with the bodypack receiver.
  • Power Button: Turns the unit on/off.

Rear Panel

  • DC 12-18V Power Jack: Connect the included power adapter.
  • Adapter Cord Tie-Off: Secures the power cord to prevent accidental disconnection.
  • Left & Right Track Input (XLR/TRS Combo Jacks): Connect your audio source (e.g., mixer output).

3. Bodypack Receiver Overview

The bodypack receiver is a durable unit designed for comfortable and reliable monitoring. It features an informative LCD display and practical functions:

  • ON/OFF Power Switch: Located on the top or side for easy access.
  • Informative Battery Light: Indicates battery status (turns red when low).
  • IR Window: For infrared synchronization with the transmitter.
  • Operating Mode Indicator: Displays current status and settings.
  • Volume Control: Adjusts the earphone volume.
  • Earphone Jack: Connect your in-ear earbuds.
  • Belt Clip: For attaching the bodypack securely to clothing.

4. Setup

4.1 Connecting the Transmitter

  1. Connect the included antenna to the Antenna Jack on the rear panel of the transmitter.
  2. Connect your audio source (e.g., mixer output) to the Left & Right Track Inputs (XLR/TRS Combo Jacks) on the rear panel.
  3. Plug the power adapter into the DC 12-18V Power Jack and connect it to a power outlet. Secure the cord with the Adapter Cord Tie-Off.
  4. Press the Power Button on the front panel to turn on the transmitter.

4.2 Installing Batteries in the Bodypack Receiver

  1. Open the battery compartment on the bodypack receiver.
  2. Insert the 2 x AA batteries, ensuring correct polarity.
  3. Close the battery compartment securely.

4.3 Syncing Transmitter and Receiver

  1. Turn on both the transmitter and the bodypack receiver.
  2. On the transmitter, use the Up/Down buttons to select your desired group and channel.
  3. Align the IR Window on the transmitter with the IR Window on the bodypack receiver.
  4. Press the SET button on the transmitter. The bodypack receiver should automatically synchronize to the selected frequency.

4.4 Rack Mounting (Optional)

The system includes a rack mount kit for professional installation. Follow the instructions provided with the rack mount kit to securely install the transmitter into a standard audio rack.

5. Operating the System

5.1 Adjusting Frequencies

The PTM-10 operates in the 900MHz band with 89 adjustable UHF frequencies. Use the Up/Down buttons on the transmitter to cycle through available groups and channels to find a clear frequency. Re-sync the bodypack receiver after changing frequencies.

5.2 Bodypack Receiver Functions

The bodypack receiver offers several practical functions for personalized monitoring:

  • L1 (Limiter Function): Attenuates loud signals for smooth hearing protection.
  • FO (Frequency Lock Function): Freely select mono (ON) / stereo (OFF) mode for the bodypack.
  • BAL (Balance Function): Adjusts the left/right volume balance to tailor your hearing preference.
  • EQ (Equalizer Function): Adjusts tone/pitch for a dynamic audio experience.

5.3 Adjusting Volume

  • Transmitter Headphone Volume: Use the dedicated knob on the front panel to adjust the volume for the connected headphones.
  • Bodypack Earphone Volume: Use the volume knob on the bodypack receiver to adjust the volume of your in-ear earbuds.

5.4 Operating Range

The system provides an operating distance of up to 160ft (50m) for free movement on stage or in the studio.

6. Maintenance

  • Keep the unit dry and away from extreme temperatures.
  • Clean the surfaces with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.
  • When not in use for extended periods, remove batteries from the bodypack receiver.

7. Troubleshooting

  • Noise or Popping Sounds: This can often be caused by interference. Try changing the frequency group and channel on the transmitter and re-syncing the bodypack receiver. Ensure all connections are secure.
  • Signal Dropouts: Check the operating range. While the system supports up to 160ft, environmental factors can affect range. Ensure the antenna is properly connected and unobstructed. Try changing frequencies if dropouts persist.
  • Low Battery Indicator: If the battery light on the bodypack receiver turns red, replace the AA batteries immediately to avoid interruption during use.
