Introduction
The GeneralAire Model 4200A Evaporative Humidifier is designed to accommodate homes up to 4200 square feet. This humidifier has been engineered for maximum humidity output, especially with today's high-efficiency furnaces. Its compact, lightweight design ensures easy installation and maintenance. The included automatic humidistat (GFX3) adjusts settings based on changing outdoor temperatures, providing optimal indoor humidity levels.
Please note: This unit includes the GFX3 humidistat, NOT the GFX4 humidistat.
Key Features
- Low Profile, Space-Saving Design: Engineered for smaller installation spaces, making it suitable for modern homes.
- Quiet Cross-Flow Fan: Operates at only 48dB, quietly pulling hot air through the wetted Vapor Pad and distributing humidity into your ventilation system.
- Heavy Duty, UV Stable Cover: The cover lifts off easily, revealing a hinged door that protects internal components and simplifies maintenance. No heavy lifting of the entire unit is required.
- Removable Pins: Pins in the hinged door are easily removed to assist with installation in tight spaces.
- Integrated Safety Switch: For your safety, a shut-off switch removes power to the unit's electrical components the moment the hinged door is opened.
- Stainless Steel Water Supply Tubing: Designed to maximize humidity output and allows for hot water service.
- Replaceable Double-Walled Drain Tube & Spout: Can be easily removed for cleaning.
- Automatic Digital Humidistat (GFX3): Controls the furnace blower motor and eliminates the need for a current sensing device or air proving switch. It can also be used in manual mode.

Water Line Connection
Connect the stainless steel water supply tubing to a hot water line. Ensure all connections are secure and leak-free. The replaceable double-walled drain tube and spout should be connected to a suitable drain.

Operation
The GeneralAire Model 4200A operates automatically via the GFX3 digital humidistat. This humidistat senses both indoor and outdoor temperatures to maintain optimal humidity levels in your home.
Humidistat Settings
The GFX3 humidistat automatically adjusts the humidity setting based on outdoor temperatures. Refer to the separate GFX3 humidistat manual for detailed instructions on setting your desired indoor humidity level or switching to manual operation.

Fan-Assist Evaporation
When the humidistat calls for humidity, the quiet cross-flow fan activates, drawing warm air from your furnace through the wetted Vapor Pad. As the air passes through the pad, it absorbs moisture and is then distributed throughout your home via the HVAC system.
Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and efficient operation of your GeneralAire humidifier. The design of the 4200A makes maintenance simple and straightforward.
Vapor Pad Replacement
The Vapor Pad should be replaced at least once per heating season, or more frequently depending on water quality and usage. The hinged cover allows for easy access to the Vapor Pad assembly.

Troubleshooting
If your GeneralAire 4200A humidifier is not operating as expected, consider the following common issues:
- No Humidity Output: Check if the humidistat is set correctly and calling for humidity. Ensure the water supply valve is open and there are no kinks in the water line. Verify the furnace blower is operating.
- Excessive Humidity: Lower the humidistat setting. Ensure the outdoor temperature sensor is functioning correctly.
- Water Leaks: Inspect all water connections for tightness. Check the drain line for clogs or damage. Ensure the Vapor Pad is correctly seated.
- Unusual Noise: Check the fan for obstructions. Ensure the unit is securely mounted and not vibrating against the ductwork.
For persistent issues, consult a qualified HVAC technician.
