3.1 Hardware Overview

Figure 2: ECW220 Hardware Overview showing Power, LAN, 2.4GHz, 5GHz LEDs, Reset Button, RJ45 (PoE-over-Ethernet), DC-in Connector, and Kensington Security Slot.
3.2 Powering the Device
- PoE Connection: Connect an Ethernet cable from a PoE-enabled switch or a PoE injector to the RJ45 port on the back of the ECW220. This single cable will provide both power and data.
- DC Power: If PoE is not available, connect a 12V DC power adapter (not included) to the DC-in connector on the back of the device. Then, connect an Ethernet cable from your router or network switch to the RJ45 port for data.
Once powered, the device will boot up. Observe the LED indicators on the front for status. An orange light typically indicates power, and other lights will illuminate as the device connects to the network and broadcasts Wi-Fi signals.

3.4 Initial Configuration via EnGenius Cloud To-Go App
To set up and manage your ECW220, download the EnGenius Cloud To-Go app from your mobile device's app store. You will need to create an account if you don't already have one.
- Download the App: Search for "EnGenius Cloud To-Go" in the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
- Create/Log In: Open the app and either create a new account or log in with existing credentials.
- Register Device: The app will guide you through registering your ECW220. You may need to scan a barcode found on the device or its packaging.
- Assign to Network: Assign the device to a network (site) within the app.
- Configure Wi-Fi (SSID): Create your first Wi-Fi network by assigning an SSID (network name) and a password (minimum 8 characters).
- Advanced Options: The app allows for advanced configurations such as:
- Hide Wi-Fi (SSID): Make the network invisible, requiring manual entry of the SSID for connection.
- Guest Network: Set up a separate network for guests, often with limited access or a temporary password.
- Bandwidth Limit: Control the maximum bandwidth available to clients on a specific network.
- Click-through Landing Page: Redirect users to a custom landing page upon connecting, useful for businesses or public Wi-Fi.
4. Operating Instructions
Once configured, the EnGenius ECW220 operates automatically to provide wireless connectivity. Management and monitoring are primarily done through the EnGenius Cloud To-Go app or the EnGenius Cloud web interface.
4.1 Monitoring with the EnGenius Cloud To-Go App
The app provides a comprehensive dashboard to monitor your network's status and performance:
- Dashboard: View an overview of your network, including the status of switches and access points (AP).
- Clients: See connected devices (wireless, wired, VPN, Bluetooth), their connection type (e.g., 5G Wi-Fi), and data usage.
- Throughput: Monitor traffic and client activity over time.
- Power Status: Check the power status of devices, including PoE-powered devices and any disabled ports or outlets.
- Channel Utilization: Visualize the utilization of 2.4G, 5G, and 6G client ratios to ensure optimal channel performance.
- Logs: Access system logs for detailed event information.
This allows you to manage multiple access points, throttle bandwidth for specific users, or even identify unusual network activity, such as excessive data transfer that might indicate a virus or unauthorized usage.

5. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your EnGenius ECW220 Access Point.
- Firmware Updates: Periodically check for and apply firmware updates through the EnGenius Cloud platform. Updates often include performance improvements, security patches, and new features.
- Physical Cleaning: Keep the device free from dust and debris. Use a soft, dry cloth for cleaning. Ensure ventilation holes are not obstructed.
- Network Monitoring: Regularly check the EnGenius Cloud To-Go app for any alerts or unusual activity. This helps in proactive identification and resolution of potential issues.
- Cable Integrity: Ensure all Ethernet and power cables are securely connected and free from damage.
6. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your EnGenius ECW220, consider the following troubleshooting steps:
- No Power/LEDs Off: Verify the power source. If using PoE, ensure the PoE switch or injector is functioning correctly and providing adequate power. If using DC, check the power adapter and outlet.
- No Internet Connection: Check the Ethernet cable connection to your router/switch. Ensure your main internet connection is active. Restart the ECW220 and your router/modem.
- Slow Wi-Fi Speed: Check the bandwidth limits set in the EnGenius Cloud app. Monitor channel utilization for interference. Ensure your client devices are within optimal range and supporting the Wi-Fi 6 standard.
- Cannot Connect to Wi-Fi: Verify the SSID and password. Ensure the Wi-Fi network is not hidden. Check if the device is assigned to the correct network in the app.
- Device Offline in App: Ensure the ECW220 has an active internet connection and can reach the EnGenius Cloud servers. Restart the device.
- Resetting the Device: If issues persist, you may perform a factory reset using the reset button on the device (refer to Figure 2 for location). This will revert all settings to default.
