3. Setup

Follow these steps to connect your PTX-30 mixer.

3.1 Power Connection

  1. Ensure the mixer is turned off before connecting the power adapter.
  2. Connect the included power adapter to the DC IN port on the rear of the mixer.
  3. Plug the power adapter into a suitable wall outlet.

3.2 Input Connections

The PTX-30 features 8 mono input channels with combination XLR/Line inputs.

  • Microphones: Connect XLR microphones to the XLR inputs. For condenser microphones, activate the +48V phantom power switch located on the top right of the mixer.
  • Line-Level Instruments: Connect instruments like keyboards or guitars (with appropriate preamps/DI boxes) to the 1/4" TRS/TS line inputs.

3.3 Output Connections

  • Main Outputs: Connect your powered speakers or amplifier to the MAIN OUTPUTS (XLR or 1/4" TRS) on the mixer.
  • Headphones: Connect headphones to the PHONES 1/4" output for monitoring.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Basic Operation

  1. Power On: After all connections are made, turn on the mixer using the power switch.
  2. Gain Control: Adjust the GAIN knob for each channel to achieve an optimal input level without clipping.
  3. Equalization (EQ): Use the HIGH, MID, and LOW knobs on each channel to shape the tone of your audio.
  4. Pan Control: Adjust the PAN knob to position the sound within the stereo field.
  5. Volume Control: Use the channel faders and the MAIN L/R faders to control the overall output volume.

4.2 DSP Effects

The PTX-30 features 99 built-in DSP effects to enhance your sound.

  1. Rotate the PROGRAM (PUSH) knob to browse through the 99 effects displayed on the LCD screen.
  2. Press the PROGRAM (PUSH) knob to select and activate the desired effect.
  3. Adjust the FX SEND knob on each channel to send the audio signal to the effects processor.
  4. Use the FX fader to control the overall level of the effects return.

4.3 Bluetooth Function

Stream audio wirelessly from your smartphone or tablet.

  1. Press the MP3/BT CONNECT button to activate Bluetooth mode. The Bluetooth indicator light will flash.
  2. On your device (smartphone, tablet), search for "Phenyx Pro" in the Bluetooth settings and pair.
  3. Once connected, the indicator light will be solid. You can now stream audio to the mixer.
  4. Adjust the MP3 fader to control the Bluetooth audio level.

4.4 USB Playback (USB-A)

Play audio files directly from a USB flash drive.

  1. Insert a USB flash drive containing MP3 files into the USB-A port.
  2. The mixer will automatically detect and begin playing audio.
  3. Use the transport controls (play/pause, next/previous) on the MP3 section to navigate tracks.
  4. Adjust the MP3 fader to control the USB playback audio level.

4.5 USB Audio Interface (USB-B)

Connect the mixer to a computer, iPad, or smartphone for high-quality recording and playback.

  1. Connect the mixer's USB-B port to your computer or compatible device using a USB cable.
  2. The mixer will be recognized as an audio interface. Select it as your input/output device in your recording software (DAW).
  3. The USB-B port provides a separate, high-quality recording sound.

5. Recording Function (USB-A)

The PTX-30 allows direct recording to a USB flash drive via the USB-A port.

  1. Insert a USB flash drive into the USB-A port.
  2. Long-press the white STOP/REC button to enter the recording mode. The display will show recording indicators.
  3. Tap the blue PROGRAM knob to start recording.
  4. To stop recording, tap the PROGRAM knob again.
  5. To save the recorded file, long-press the PROGRAM knob. The file will be saved in MP3 format.

6. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your PTX-30 mixer, follow these maintenance guidelines:

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the surface of the mixer. Avoid using liquid cleaners or solvents, which can damage the finish and internal components.
  • Storage: Store the mixer in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, extreme temperatures, and high humidity.
  • Protection: Protect the mixer from dust and spills. Consider using a dust cover when not in use.
  • Cable Management: Ensure all cables are connected securely and are not under strain. Avoid bending cables sharply.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your PTX-30 mixer, refer to the following common problems and solutions.

7.1 No Power

  • Check if the power adapter is securely connected to both the mixer and a working power outlet.
  • Ensure the power switch on the mixer is in the 'ON' position.

7.3 Noise or Hissing Sound

  • Reduce the GAIN levels on individual channels and the main output if the signal is too hot.
  • Ensure all cables are shielded and in good condition. Faulty cables can introduce noise.
  • Check for ground loops. Try connecting all audio equipment to the same power strip.
