Product Overview

The D-Link DAP-1955-US is a compact, wall-plug design Wi-Fi range extender. It features a front-facing signal indicator and a Gigabit Ethernet port on the bottom for wired connections.

The bottom of the device includes a Gigabit Ethernet port, a reset button, and an on/off switch. Setup Instructions

There are two primary methods for setting up your D-Link DAP-1955-US extender: using the D-Link Wi-Fi app or via the WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) button.

Method 1: D-Link Wi-Fi App Setup (Recommended)

  1. Download the App: Download the free D-Link Wi-Fi app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store on your smartphone or tablet.

  2. Power On: Plug the DAP-1955-US extender into an electrical outlet. Ensure it is within a reasonable range of your existing Wi-Fi router.

  3. Launch App: Open the D-Link Wi-Fi app and follow the on-screen instructions to set up your extender. The app will guide you through connecting to the extender's temporary Wi-Fi network and configuring it to extend your main router's Wi-Fi.
  4. Placement Optimization: Use the Smart Signal Indicator LEDs on the front of the extender to find the optimal placement. Green LEDs indicate a strong signal from your router, while orange or red may suggest moving the extender closer to the router.

Method 2: WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) Setup

WPS offers a quick way to connect your extender to a WPS-compatible router.

  1. Power On: Plug the DAP-1955-US extender into an electrical outlet.
  2. Press WPS on Router: Within two minutes, press the WPS button on your existing Wi-Fi router.
  3. Press WPS on Extender: Immediately after, press the WPS button on the side of your DAP-1955-US extender (refer to Figure 5).
  4. Wait for Connection: The extender's LEDs will flash during the connection process. Once connected, the signal indicator LEDs will light up green, indicating a successful connection and signal strength.
  5. Optimize Placement: Relocate the extender to an area between your router and the Wi-Fi dead zone. Use the Smart Signal Indicator LEDs to ensure optimal signal strength (refer to Figure 5).
