4. Setup
4.1 Battery Installation
The AP-8801B requires one 9V battery for operation. To install or replace the battery:
- Locate the battery compartment cover on the back of the device.
- Open the cover by sliding or unscrewing it.
- Insert a new 9V battery, ensuring correct polarity (+ and -).
- Close the battery compartment cover securely.
When the low battery indicator appears on the LCD, replace the battery promptly to ensure accurate measurements.

5. Operating Instructions
5.1 Power On/Off
Press the red Switch Button to turn the device on or off.
5.2 Basic Light Measurement
- Turn on the light meter.
- Ensure the light detector is clean and free from obstructions.
- Point the light detector towards the light source or area where you want to measure illuminance. The sensor can be rotated up to 270° left and 90° right for optimal positioning.
- The current illuminance value will be displayed on the LCD screen in Lux or FC units.

5.3 Unit Selection (Lux/FC, °C/°F)
Press the MODE button to toggle between Lux and FC units for light measurement. Long press the MODE button to switch between Celsius (°C) and Fahrenheit (°F) for temperature display.
5.4 Data Hold
Press the HOLD key briefly to freeze the current reading on the display. Press it again to release the hold function and resume live measurement.
5.5 Max/Min Data Hold
Press the MAX/MIN key to cycle through the maximum, minimum, and current readings. The display will indicate 'MAX' or 'MIN' when these values are shown.
5.6 Data Storage (REC)
Short press the REC button to record the current data. Long press the REC button, then use the REL/UP key to view the stored data.

5.7 Auto/Manual Ranging
The device typically operates in auto-ranging mode. To switch to manual ranging, long press the HOLD/RANGE key. Press again to select different ranges. Long press again to return to auto-ranging.
5.8 Relative Value Measurement
Press the REL/UP key to enter relative value mode. The meter will display the difference between the current measurement and a set reference value.
6. Maintenance
- Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the device. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents. Ensure the light detector is kept clean for accurate readings.
- Storage: When not in use for extended periods, remove the battery to prevent leakage. Store the device in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
- Sensor Protection: Keep the protective cap on the light sensor when not in use to prevent damage and dust accumulation.
7. Troubleshooting
- Device does not power on: Check if the battery is installed correctly and has sufficient charge. Replace the battery if necessary.
- Inaccurate readings: Ensure the light detector is clean and unobstructed. Verify that the correct measurement unit (Lux/FC) is selected. Check for strong electromagnetic interference nearby.
- Display shows 'OL' (Over-range): The measured light intensity exceeds the current range. If in manual ranging mode, switch to a higher range. If in auto-ranging, the light intensity is beyond the device's maximum capacity.
- Display is dim or flickering: The battery may be low. Replace the battery.
