Components Included

  • 1 Adjustable Sure-Grip Clamp
  • 1 Handle
  • 2 28-inch Guide Rails
  • 2 Cutline Indicator Arms
  • 2 Paired Connector Bars

Assembly and Setup

1. Connecting Guide Rails

The KMA4500-E consists of two 28-inch guide rails. To achieve the full 50-inch length, connect the two guide rails using the provided paired connector bars. Ensure the connection is secure and the rails are perfectly aligned to maintain a straight cutting edge.

2. Attaching Handle and Cutline Indicators

Attach the handle to one end of the assembled guide rail. Install the two cutline indicator arms into their designated slots on the guide. These arms are retractable and can be adjusted to match the offset of your specific circular saw's base plate to its blade.

3. Adjusting Cutline Indicators

To set the cutline indicators, place your circular saw on the guide rail. Extend the indicator arms and align them with the saw blade's cutting edge. Secure the arms in this position. This calibration ensures that when you align the indicator arms with your pencil mark on the workpiece, the saw blade will cut precisely on that line.

Operating Instructions

1. Marking Your Cut

Measure and mark your desired cut line on the workpiece using a pencil. The cutline indicators on the Kreg Straight Edge Guide will allow you to align the guide precisely with this mark, eliminating the need for complex offset measurements.

2. Clamping the Guide

Position the Straight Edge Guide on your workpiece, aligning the cutline indicators with your marked line. Pull back on the large built-in handle to engage the GripMaxx™ anti-slip clamps. These clamps secure the guide firmly to the material, preventing any shifting during the cut. Ensure the guide is stable before proceeding.

3. Making the Cut

Place your circular saw, jigsaw, or trim router onto the guide rail. The tool's base plate will ride along the rail, ensuring a perfectly straight cut. Maintain steady pressure and a consistent feed rate for optimal results. After the cut, release the clamps by pushing the handle forward and remove the guide.

Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and continued accuracy of your Kreg Straight Edge Guide, follow these maintenance tips:

  • Cleaning: After each use, wipe down the aluminum guide rails and plastic components with a dry cloth to remove sawdust and debris. Avoid using harsh chemicals that could damage the finish or materials.
  • Inspection: Regularly inspect the guide rails, connector bars, clamps, and cutline indicators for any signs of wear, damage, or misalignment. Ensure all screws and fasteners are tight.
  • Storage: Store the guide in a clean, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Proper storage helps prevent warping or damage to the components.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your Kreg Straight Edge Guide, consider the following:

  • Inaccurate Cuts: Double-check that the cutline indicators are correctly calibrated to your saw's blade offset. Ensure the guide rails are securely connected and free from any debris that could cause misalignment.
  • Guide Slipping: Verify that the GripMaxx™ clamps are fully engaged and applying sufficient pressure to the workpiece. Ensure the workpiece surface is clean and dry, free from oils or excessive dust that could reduce friction.
  • Difficulty Clamping: Check for any obstructions preventing the clamps from fully engaging. Ensure the material thickness is within the guide's clamping capacity.
