3. Setup
3.1 Physical Installation
The DN-95351 switch offers flexible installation options:
- Desktop Installation: Attach the provided rubber feet to the bottom of the switch to prevent slipping and ensure proper ventilation. Place the switch on a stable, flat surface.
- 19-inch Rack Installation: Secure the included rack mount ears to the sides of the switch using the provided screws. Then, mount the switch into a standard 19-inch server rack. Ensure adequate space for airflow around the device.
3.2 Power Connection
Connect the provided power cable to the AC power inlet on the rear panel of the switch and then to a standard electrical outlet. Ensure the power switch is in the 'Off' position before connecting, then switch it 'On' after all network connections are made.

3.3 Network Connections
- RJ45 Ports (1-16): Connect your network devices (computers, servers, IP cameras, access points, IP phones) to these 10/100/1000Base-TX Gigabit Ethernet ports using standard Ethernet cables. These ports support Power over Ethernet (PoE/PoE+) for compatible devices.
- SFP Uplink Ports (17-18): Use these 1 Gigabit SFP ports for fiber optic connections to other network devices, such as core switches or servers, for longer distances or higher bandwidth requirements. Insert compatible SFP modules (not included) into these slots.
- RJ45 Console Port: This port is used for local management and configuration via a serial connection (e.g., using a console cable and terminal emulation software).

4. Operating
4.1 Power Over Ethernet (PoE) Functionality
The DN-95351 automatically detects and supplies power to devices that comply with IEEE802.3af/at standards. Each PoE+ port can deliver up to 30 watts, with a total power budget of 380 watts for all 16 ports. This simplifies deployment of PoE-enabled devices by eliminating the need for separate power adapters.
4.2 L2+ Management Features
This switch offers advanced Layer 2+ management capabilities for network optimization and security:
- VLAN (Virtual Local Area Network): Segment your network for improved security and performance.
- Port Mirroring: Monitor network traffic by sending a copy of packets from one port to another.
- Port Aggregation (Link Aggregation): Combine multiple physical links into a single logical link for increased bandwidth and redundancy.
- SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol): Remotely monitor and manage network devices.
- QoS (Quality of Service): Prioritize network traffic to ensure critical applications receive sufficient bandwidth.
- STP/RSTP/MSTP (Spanning Tree Protocols): Prevent network loops and provide path redundancy.
- IEEE802.1X with ACL & Radius Authentication: Enhance network security by authenticating users and devices.
Detailed configuration instructions for these features can be found in the full data sheet or through the switch's web-based management interface or CLI.
5. Maintenance
To ensure optimal performance and longevity of your DIGITUS DN-95351 switch, follow these maintenance guidelines:
- Keep Clean: Regularly clean the exterior of the switch with a soft, dry cloth. Ensure ventilation openings are free from dust and obstructions.
- Environmental Conditions: Operate the switch within its specified temperature and humidity ranges. Avoid exposing it to direct sunlight, excessive heat, or moisture.
- Firmware Updates: Periodically check the DIGITUS website for firmware updates. Keeping the firmware current can improve performance, add new features, and address security vulnerabilities.
- Cable Management: Ensure all network cables are neatly organized and securely connected to prevent accidental disconnections or damage.
6. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your DIGITUS DN-95351 switch, consider the following troubleshooting steps:
- No Power: Verify the power cable is securely connected to both the switch and the power outlet. Check if the power switch on the rear panel is in the 'On' position. Test the power outlet with another device.
- No Network Connectivity: Ensure Ethernet cables are properly connected to both the switch and the devices. Check the link/activity LEDs on the switch ports; a solid or blinking green light indicates a valid connection and activity. Verify IP configurations on connected devices.
- PoE Device Not Powering On: Confirm the connected device is PoE/PoE+ compatible. Check the PoE status LEDs on the switch. Ensure the total power budget of 380W is not exceeded. Try connecting the device to a different PoE port.
- Slow Network Performance: Check for excessive network traffic or loops (Spanning Tree Protocol should prevent this). Verify cable integrity. Consider optimizing QoS settings if specific applications require priority.
- Accessing Management Interface: Ensure your computer is on the same network segment as the switch. Verify the switch's IP address and your computer's network settings. Try resetting the switch to factory defaults if you cannot access it (refer to the full manual for reset procedures).
If problems persist, consult the detailed product data sheet or contact DIGITUS technical support.
