1. Introduction
This manual provides essential information for the safe and effective operation, setup, and maintenance of your Scheppach HM216 Radial Miter Saw. Please read all instructions carefully before using the tool to ensure personal safety and optimal performance.
2. Safety Instructions
Always observe general power tool safety guidelines. Failure to follow these instructions may result in electric shock, fire, and/or serious injury.
- Personal Protective Equipment: Always wear safety glasses, hearing protection, and a dust mask when operating the miter saw.
- Work Area: Keep the work area clean and well-lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents.
- Electrical Safety: Ensure the power supply matches the tool's specifications. Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions.
- Blade Safety: Always ensure the blade guard is functioning correctly. Never attempt to bypass safety features. Disconnect power before changing blades or performing maintenance.
- Workpiece Clamping: Securely clamp the workpiece before cutting. Never hold the workpiece by hand during operation.
- Laser Safety: Avoid direct eye exposure to the laser beam. Do not stare into the beam.
- Stability: Ensure the saw is placed on a stable, level surface before operation.

4. Setup
4.1 Unpacking and Assembly
Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Inspect for any damage. Assemble any detachable parts such as the dust bag, side extensions, or material supports as per the included assembly diagrams (refer to the separate assembly guide if provided).
4.2 Blade Installation/Change
- Disconnect Power: Always unplug the saw from the power source before installing or changing blades.
- Open Blade Guard: Lift the lower blade guard and secure it in the open position if possible, or hold it carefully.
- Loosen Arbor Nut: Use the provided wrench to loosen the arbor nut that secures the blade. Note that the nut may have a left-hand thread.
- Remove Old Blade: Carefully remove the old blade, noting its rotation direction.
- Install New Blade: Place the new blade onto the arbor, ensuring the teeth are pointing in the correct direction (usually indicated by an arrow on the blade and saw).
- Tighten Arbor Nut: Securely tighten the arbor nut. Do not overtighten.
- Close Blade Guard: Release the blade guard to its original position.
4.3 Workpiece Clamping
The workpiece clamp is essential for safe and accurate cuts. Position the clamp to firmly hold the material against the fence and the miter table. Adjust the clamp height and position to suit the workpiece dimensions.

5. Operating Instructions
5.1 Power Connection
Connect the saw to a suitable 230 Volt power outlet. Ensure the power cord is not damaged and is positioned to avoid accidental cutting or tripping hazards.
5.2 Adjusting Miter and Bevel Angles
The HM216 allows for precise adjustment of both miter (horizontal) and bevel (vertical) angles.
- Miter Angle: Loosen the miter lock knob, rotate the turntable to the desired angle (indicated on the scale), and then tighten the knob. Predefined detents are available for common angles like 0°, 15°, 22.5°, 30°, and 45°.
- Bevel Angle: Loosen the bevel lock lever, tilt the saw head to the desired angle (indicated on the scale), and then tighten the lever.

5.3 Making Cuts
- Position Workpiece: Place the workpiece firmly against the fence and miter table. Secure it with the workpiece clamp.
- Align Cut: Activate the laser guide to align the blade with your desired cut line.
- Start Saw: Press the power switch to start the motor. Allow the blade to reach full speed before beginning the cut.
- Perform Cut: Slowly and steadily lower the saw head through the workpiece. For radial cuts, pull the saw head forward, lower it, and push it back through the material.
- Retract Blade: Once the cut is complete, release the power switch and allow the blade to stop completely before raising the saw head.
- Remove Workpiece: Only remove the workpiece after the blade has come to a complete stop and the saw head is fully retracted.
5.4 Dust Collection
The HM216 is equipped with a dust bag connection. Attach the provided dust bag or connect to an external dust extraction system to minimize sawdust and maintain a cleaner work environment.
6. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and safe operation of your miter saw.
- Cleaning: After each use, unplug the saw and clean off sawdust and debris from the motor vents, blade guard, and miter table using a brush or compressed air.
- Blade Inspection: Regularly inspect the saw blade for sharpness, damage, or missing teeth. Replace dull or damaged blades immediately.
- Lubrication: Apply a light coat of machine oil to moving parts and pivot points as needed to ensure smooth operation.
- Carbon Brushes: If the motor performance decreases, inspect the carbon brushes. Replace them if they are worn down to their limit. Refer to the service manual for specific instructions.
7. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
