Setup
1. Battery Installation
- Ensure the radio is powered off.
- Locate the battery compartment cover on the back of the radio.
- Press down on the tab and slide the cover off.
- Insert the rechargeable NiMH battery pack (Model: BATT3R, 3.6V 700mAh) into the compartment, ensuring the "UP" arrow on the battery faces upwards and the contacts align correctly. The battery pack is clearly labeled "INSERT WITH THIS SIDE OUT".
- Replace the battery compartment cover, sliding it until it clicks securely into place.
2. Charging the Batteries
For optimal performance, fully charge the battery packs before first use.
- Connect the USB charging cable to the desktop charger and a compatible USB power source (e.g., wall adapter, computer USB port).
- Place the radios into the charging slots of the desktop charger. Ensure the radio is seated correctly and the charging indicator light illuminates.
- A full charge typically takes approximately 12 hours. The charging indicator light will change or turn off once charging is complete (refer to radio display for specific charging status).
Note: Do not attempt to charge alkaline batteries in the charger. Only use the provided rechargeable NiMH battery packs.
3. Attaching the Belt Clip
- Align the belt clip with the grooves on the back of the radio.
- Slide the belt clip downwards until it locks into place.
- To remove, lift the tab on the belt clip and slide it upwards.
Operating Instructions
1. Power On/Off and Volume Control
- Power On: Press and hold the POWER/MENU button until the display illuminates.
- Power Off: Press and hold the POWER/MENU button until the display turns off.
- Volume Control: Use the UP (▲) and DOWN (▼) buttons to adjust the listening volume.
2. Channel Selection
Your radios have 22 FRS (Family Radio Service) channels.
- With the radio powered on, press the MENU button once. The channel number will flash on the display.
- Use the UP (▲) or DOWN (▼) buttons to select your desired channel (1-22).
- Press the MENU button again or wait a few seconds for the selection to be saved.
3. Privacy Codes (CTCSS)
Privacy codes help minimize interference from other users on the same channel. Your radios offer 38 CTCSS (Continuous Tone-Coded Squelch System) codes.
- After selecting a channel, press the MENU button twice. The privacy code number will flash.
- Use the UP (▲) or DOWN (▼) buttons to select your desired privacy code (0-38). Code 0 means no privacy code is active.
- Press the MENU button again or wait a few seconds to save.
- Important: For successful communication, all radios in your group must be set to the same channel and privacy code.
4. Transmitting and Receiving
- To Transmit: Press and hold the PTT (Push-To-Talk) button located on the side of the radio. Speak clearly into the microphone, holding the radio approximately 2-3 inches from your mouth. Release the PTT button when finished speaking. The TX icon will appear on the display during transmission.
- To Receive: Ensure the PTT button is not pressed. The radio will automatically receive signals on the selected channel and privacy code. The RX icon will appear on the display when a signal is being received.
5. eVOX (Hands-Free Operation)
eVOX allows for voice-activated transmission without pressing the PTT button.
- Press the MENU button until the VOX icon flashes.
- Use the UP (▲) or DOWN (▼) buttons to select an eVOX sensitivity level (1-3, with 3 being the most sensitive). Select "OFF" to disable eVOX.
- Press the MENU button or wait to save. When eVOX is active, the VOX icon will be displayed.
6. Monitor and Scan Functions
- Monitor: Press the MON/SCAN button once to temporarily disable squelch and listen for weak signals on the current channel. Press again to exit.
- Scan: Press and hold the MON/SCAN button to activate the channel scan feature. The radio will scan all 22 channels for activity. When a signal is detected, the radio will pause on that channel. Press PTT to transmit on the active channel, or press MON/SCAN again to resume scanning.
7. Weather Alert (WX)
The Weather Alert feature provides automatic alerts for severe weather conditions.
- Press the WX button (located below the MON/SCAN button) to enter Weather Radio mode. The WX icon will appear.
- In Weather Radio mode, you can use the UP (▲) or DOWN (▼) buttons to select a weather channel.
- To activate Weather Alert, press the MENU button while in Weather Radio mode. The WX ALERT icon will flash. Use UP (▲) or DOWN (▼) to select "ON" or "OFF". Press MENU to confirm.
- When Weather Alert is active, the radio will automatically switch to a weather channel and sound an alarm if a severe weather alert is broadcast.
- Press the WX button again to exit Weather Radio mode and return to normal operation.
8. Call Alert
The Call Alert feature allows you to send an audible alert tone to other radios in your group.
- Press the CALL button once. The radio will transmit a distinct call tone for a short period.
Maintenance
- Cleaning: Use a soft, damp cloth to clean the exterior of the radio. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Battery Care: To prolong battery life, avoid overcharging and fully discharge the batteries periodically before recharging. If storing the radios for an extended period, remove the battery packs.
- Storage: Store the radios in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
