3. Setup

3.1 Battery Installation (AAA)

For backup power, you can install 3 AAA batteries (not included) into the dedicated compartment. Ensure correct polarity (+/-) when inserting the batteries.

3.2 Initial Charging

Before first use, fully charge the internal 4000mAh Li-ion battery using the Micro USB cable. Connect the cable to the Micro USB input port on the radio and a USB power source (e.g., wall adapter, computer). The charging indicator lights will show the charging status.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Power On/Off

Press and hold the Power button to turn the radio on or off.

4.2 Radio Operation (AM/FM/NOAA)

  1. Extend the telescopic antenna for optimal reception.
  2. Press the BAND button to cycle through AM, FM, and WB (Weather Band) modes.
  3. Use the Tuning buttons (left/right arrows) to manually adjust the frequency.
  4. Adjust the volume using the VOL +/- buttons.

4.3 NOAA Weather Alert Function

To activate the NOAA Weather Alert function:

  1. Switch the radio to WB (Weather Band) mode.
  2. Press the AL (Alert) button. The green LED indicator will flash, signifying that the radio is actively listening for the 1050Hz NOAA alert tone.
  3. Upon detection of an alert tone, the radio will emit a 45-second siren and then broadcast the warning message.

4.4 Flashlight Operation

Press the Flashlight button (usually marked with a light bulb icon) to turn the LED flashlight on or off.

4.5 SOS Alarm Function

In an emergency, press the SOS button to activate a loud siren and a flashing light signal to attract attention.

4.6 Power Bank Function (Charging External Devices)

Connect your mobile phone or other small electronic device to the USB output port of the radio using your device's charging cable. The radio's internal 4000mAh battery will provide power to charge your device. This feature is intended for emergency use to preserve the radio's battery life.

5. Charging the Radio

The FosPower FOSPWB-2397 offers multiple ways to recharge its internal battery:

5.1 Micro USB Charging

For the fastest and most efficient charging, connect the included Micro USB cable to the radio's Micro USB input port and a standard USB power adapter (not included).

5.2 Solar Charging

Place the radio with the solar panel facing direct sunlight. The solar panel will slowly charge the internal battery. This method is ideal for maintaining charge or for trickle charging in outdoor environments.

5.3 Hand Crank Charging

Unfold the hand crank handle and rotate it clockwise or counter-clockwise at a steady pace. Continuous cranking will generate power to charge the internal battery. This method is suitable for short bursts of power or when other charging options are unavailable.

6. Maintenance

  • Keep the radio clean by wiping it with a soft, dry cloth.
  • Avoid exposing the radio to extreme temperatures or direct prolonged sunlight when not in use for solar charging.
  • Store the radio in a dry place.
  • If using AAA batteries, remove them if the radio will not be used for an extended period to prevent leakage.
