Setup

1. Unpacking

Carefully remove the smoke detector and all accessories from the packaging. Verify that all components are present: smoke detector unit, mounting bracket, screws, and anchors.

2. Battery Activation

The smoke detector comes with a pre-installed 10-year lithium battery. To activate the battery, simply remove the battery isolation tab (if present) or twist the detector onto its mounting bracket. The detector will emit a short beep to indicate activation.

3. Mounting Location

Choose a central location on the ceiling or high on a wall, away from corners, vents, and direct sunlight. For optimal protection, install smoke detectors in every sleeping area and on every level of your home, including the basement.

4. Mounting the Detector

Use the provided screws and anchors to securely attach the mounting bracket to the chosen location. Once the bracket is installed, align the smoke detector with the bracket and twist it clockwise until it locks into place. Ensure it is firmly attached.

5. Wireless Interconnection

To interconnect multiple HEIMAN smoke detectors:

1. On each detector, locate the DIP switches (usually inside the battery compartment or on the back).
2. Set the DIP switches on all detectors you wish to interconnect to the same ID. There are 16 possible ID groups. Only detectors with matching IDs will form a connection group.
3. Once the DIP switches are set, activate each detector by installing it on its mounting bracket.
4. Test the interconnection by pressing the test button on one detector. All interconnected detectors should sound the alarm.

A maximum of 40 wireless smoke detectors can be interconnected. The wireless transmission range is over 150 meters in open air.

Operating

1. Testing the Alarm

Press and hold the large central test/silence button on the detector. The alarm will sound, and the LED indicator will flash rapidly. If interconnected, all linked alarms should also sound. Release the button to stop the test. Test your smoke detector weekly.

2. Silence Function

In case of a nuisance alarm (e.g., from cooking fumes), press the test/silence button to temporarily silence the alarm for approximately 10 minutes. The alarm will automatically reset after this period if the smoke has cleared. If smoke is still present, the alarm will reactivate.

3. LED Indicator Meanings

• Green LED (flashing every 60 seconds): Normal operation.
• Red LED (flashing rapidly with alarm): Smoke detected.
• Red LED (flashing every 60 seconds with a chirp): Low battery warning.
• Red LED (flashing every 60 seconds with a different chirp): Malfunction/fault.

Maintenance

1. Cleaning

Clean your smoke detector at least once a month. Use a soft brush attachment on your vacuum cleaner to remove dust and debris from the vents. Do not use cleaning solvents or spray chemicals directly on the detector.

2. Battery Status

The detector features a 10-year sealed battery. When the battery is low, the detector will chirp approximately once every 60 seconds, accompanied by a red LED flash. Replace the entire unit when the low battery warning sounds, as the battery is not user-replaceable.

3. Regular Testing

Test your smoke detector weekly by pressing the test button. This ensures the alarm and its electronic components are functioning correctly.
