6. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your Unitek USB 3.0 Active Extension Cable, follow these maintenance guidelines:

  • Storage: Store the cable in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Handling: Avoid sharp bends, kinks, or excessive pulling on the cable, especially near the connectors and booster units.
  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the cable and connectors. Do not use liquid cleaners or solvents.
  • Connection Integrity: Ensure connectors are free from dust and debris before plugging them in.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your Unitek USB 3.0 Active Extension Cable, refer to the following troubleshooting steps:

  • Device Not Recognized:
    • Ensure both ends of the extension cable are securely plugged into the source and target devices.
    • Verify that the white LED indicator on the booster unit is lit. If not, check connections.
    • Try connecting the target device directly to the source device's USB port to confirm the device itself is functional.
    • If using a high-power device (e.g., some VR headsets, external hard drives), connect an optional 5V 2A DC power adapter to the cable's DC jack.
    • Test with a different USB port on your source device.
  • Slow Data Transfer Speed:
    • Ensure both the source device's port and the target device support USB 3.0. If either is USB 2.0, speeds will be limited to USB 2.0 rates.
    • Confirm the white LED indicator is lit, indicating proper power and signal boosting.
    • If applicable, use the optional 5V 2A DC power adapter to stabilize power delivery, which can impact data integrity and speed.
  • Intermittent Connection:
    • Check for loose connections at both ends of the cable.
    • Ensure the cable is not excessively bent or damaged.
    • Consider using the optional 5V 2A DC power adapter, especially if the device draws fluctuating power.
  • No Power to Device (if applicable):
    • Remember, this cable is primarily for data extension, not charging.
    • For devices that draw power through USB, ensure the optional 5V 2A DC power adapter is connected to the extension cable.
