POOLEX JL-P11358FR Filtration Unit

Instruction Manual

Model: JL-P11358FR | Brand: POOLEX

1. Introduction

This manual provides comprehensive instructions for the installation, operation, and maintenance of your POOLEX JL-P11358FR Filtration Unit. This compact system is designed to efficiently filter pool water, ensuring clarity and hygiene for pools up to 20 m³ with a flow rate of 3.03 m³/h.

Please read this manual thoroughly before operating the unit to ensure safe and optimal performance.

2. Safety Information

Adherence to the following safety guidelines is crucial for preventing injury and damage to the equipment:

  • Always disconnect the unit from the power supply before performing any maintenance, cleaning, or installation procedures.
  • Ensure the electrical connection is protected by a Residual Current Device (RCD) with a tripping current not exceeding 30mA.
  • Do not operate the unit if the power cord or plug is damaged. Contact qualified personnel for repairs.
  • Keep children and pets away from the filtration unit during operation.
  • Install the unit on a stable, level surface, away from direct sunlight and extreme weather conditions.
  • Ensure proper ventilation around the unit to prevent overheating.
  • Never run the pump dry. Ensure the filter tank is filled with water before starting the pump.
  • Use only recommended filter media (sand with grain size 0.45/0.85).

3. Package Contents

Verify that all components are present and undamaged upon unpacking:

  • POOLEX JL-P11358FR Filtration Unit (Filter Tank with Multi-port Valve and Pump)
  • 2-meter Electrical Cable
  • 2 x 2-meter (total 4 meters) of 32mm Diameter Hoses
  • Pressure Gauge
  • Hose Clamps and Connectors
  • Instruction Manual (this document)

Note: Filter sand (10kg, grain size 0.45/0.85) is not included and must be purchased separately.

4. Setup

Follow these steps for proper installation of your filtration unit:

  1. Placement: Position the filtration unit on a firm, level surface, preferably below the water level of the pool for easier priming. Ensure it is within reach of a suitable electrical outlet and protected from direct weather exposure.
  2. Add Filter Media:
    • Remove the multi-port valve from the top of the filter tank.
    • Place the standpipe (if separate) inside the tank, ensuring it is centered.
    • Carefully pour the recommended 10kg of filter sand (grain size 0.45/0.85) into the tank. Ensure the standpipe opening is covered to prevent sand from entering.
    • Fill the tank with water until it covers the sand. This helps to cushion the sand bed when the pump starts.
  3. Install Multi-port Valve: Carefully place the multi-port valve onto the top of the tank, aligning the standpipe with the valve's opening. Secure the valve with the provided clamp or bolts.
  4. Connect Hoses:
    • Connect one 32mm hose from the pool's skimmer/main drain to the "PUMP" inlet on the filtration unit.
    • Connect the other 32mm hose from the "RETURN" outlet on the filtration unit to the pool's return jet.
    • Secure all hose connections with hose clamps to prevent leaks.
  5. Electrical Connection: Connect the 2-meter electrical cable to a grounded electrical outlet. Ensure the outlet is protected by an RCD.

5. Operating Instructions

The multi-port valve on top of the filter allows for different operating modes:

  • FILTER: This is the standard operating mode for daily filtration. Water flows from the pool, through the filter sand, and back to the pool.
  • BACKWASH: Used to clean the filter sand. Water flows in reverse, flushing trapped debris out through the waste port.
  • RINSE: Used after backwashing to settle the sand bed and flush any remaining dirty water from the valve before returning to FILTER mode.
  • WASTE/DRAIN: Bypasses the filter and sends water directly to waste. Useful for lowering pool water level or vacuuming heavy debris directly to waste.
  • RECIRCULATE/BYPASS: Circulates water without filtering it. Useful for distributing chemicals.
  • CLOSED/WINTERIZE: Closes all ports. Used for servicing or winterizing the system. Never operate the pump with the valve in the CLOSED position.

Starting the Unit:

  1. Ensure the filter tank is filled with water and all hoses are securely connected.
  2. Set the multi-port valve handle to the "FILTER" position.
  3. Plug in the unit to the electrical outlet. The pump will start.
  4. Observe the pressure gauge. Note the initial operating pressure.

Daily Operation: Run the filtration unit for 8-12 hours daily, depending on pool size, usage, and environmental conditions, to maintain water clarity.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and efficiency of your filtration unit:

  • Backwashing: Perform backwashing when the pressure gauge reads 0.2-0.3 bar (3-5 psi) above the initial clean filter pressure, or when water flow to the pool noticeably decreases.
    1. Turn off the pump and disconnect from power.
    2. Move the multi-port valve handle to the "BACKWASH" position.
    3. Reconnect power and turn on the pump. Run until the water flowing from the waste port is clear (typically 2-3 minutes).
    4. Turn off the pump and disconnect from power.
  • Rinsing: After backwashing, always rinse the filter.
    1. Move the multi-port valve handle to the "RINSE" position.
    2. Reconnect power and turn on the pump. Run for 30-60 seconds.
    3. Turn off the pump and disconnect from power.
    4. Move the multi-port valve handle back to the "FILTER" position.
    5. Reconnect power and resume normal operation.
  • Filter Sand Replacement: Filter sand typically lasts 3-5 years. Replace it when filtration efficiency decreases despite regular backwashing.
  • Winterization: In cold climates, drain all water from the filter tank and pump to prevent freezing damage. Store the unit in a dry, protected area.
  • Regular Inspection: Periodically check hoses, clamps, and electrical connections for wear, leaks, or damage.

7. Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Low water flow / High pressure gauge readingClogged filter sand; dirty skimmer basket/pump strainer; restricted plumbing.Perform backwash and rinse cycle. Clean skimmer and pump baskets. Check hoses for kinks or blockages.
