1. Introduction

The LAUNCH CR629 is a professional OBD2 diagnostic scanner designed to assist in vehicle maintenance and troubleshooting. It provides comprehensive diagnostic functions, including reading and clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs), displaying live data, and performing various reset services. This manual provides instructions for the proper use and maintenance of your CR629 device.

2.2 Connecting the Device

1. Locate the Data Link Connector (DLC) in your vehicle. The DLC is typically located under the dashboard on the driver's side.
2. Ensure the vehicle's ignition is OFF.
3. Plug the CR629's OBD-II connector into the vehicle's DLC. Ensure a secure connection.
4. Turn the vehicle's ignition to the ON position (engine can be off or running, depending on the test). The CR629 will power on automatically.

3. Operating Instructions

The CR629 features a user-friendly interface with a 3.5-inch color LCD and dedicated function buttons for easy navigation.

3.1 Basic OBD2 Functions

After connecting the device and powering it on, navigate the main menu using the arrow keys and the OK button.

• Read Codes: Displays current, pending, and permanent Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).
• Clear Codes: Erases DTCs from the vehicle's computer and turns off the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL).
• Live Data: Displays real-time data stream from the vehicle's sensors in text or graph format.
• Freeze Frame: Shows a snapshot of operating conditions at the time an emission-related fault occurred.
• I/M Readiness: Checks the readiness of the emission monitoring systems.
• O2 Sensor Test: Retrieves O2 sensor monitor test results for the most recently completed tests.
• On-Board Monitor Test: Retrieves test results for emission-related powertrain components and systems that are not continuously monitored.

• Read/Clear ABS/SRS DTCs: Read and clear fault codes specific to these systems.
• View ABS/SRS Live Data: Monitor real-time parameters from ABS and SRS sensors.
• Active Test: Perform bi-directional control tests on ABS/SRS components (e.g., cycling solenoids, activating pumps) to quickly locate faults.

3.3 Reset Services

The CR629 supports essential maintenance reset functions to ensure your vehicle runs smoothly after service.

• Oil Reset: Resets the engine oil life system after an oil change, turning off the oil light.
• Steering Angle Sensor (SAS) Reset: Calibrates the steering angle sensor after replacement or alignment to ensure proper function of stability control systems.
• Battery Management System (BMS) Reset: Registers a new battery with the vehicle's ECU after replacement, clearing fault information and ensuring proper charging.

4. Maintenance

4.1 Software Updates

The LAUNCH CR629 offers lifetime free software updates to ensure compatibility with new vehicle models and to improve functionality. To update the device:

1. Visit the official LAUNCH website.
2. Download the update tool and the latest software package for the CR629.
3. Connect the CR629 to your computer using a USB cable.

4.2 Data Printing

Diagnostic reports and data can be printed via a PC. Connect the CR629 to your computer and use the LAUNCH update tool or dedicated software to access and print stored data.

4.3 Cleaning

Clean the device with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents. Keep the device dry and free from dust.

5. Troubleshooting

• Device does not power on: Ensure the OBD-II cable is securely connected to the vehicle's DLC and the vehicle's ignition is in the ON position. Check the vehicle's fuse for the OBD-II port.
• Communication error: Verify the vehicle is OBD-II compliant (most vehicles from 1996 onwards). Check for loose connections. Turn off the ignition, wait 10 seconds, and restart the vehicle and scanner.
• Codes cannot be cleared: Some DTCs may require specific driving cycles or repairs before they can be cleared. Ensure the underlying issue causing the code has been resolved.
• Screen frozen: Disconnect the device from the vehicle, wait a few seconds, and reconnect. If the issue persists, perform a software update.
