1. Introduction

Thank you for purchasing the Haden Boston Toaster. This manual provides essential information for the safe and efficient operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of your new appliance. Please read these instructions thoroughly before first use and retain them for future reference.

2. Important Safety Instructions

WARNING: To reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, or injury, always follow these basic safety precautions.

  • Read all instructions before operating the toaster.
  • Do not touch hot surfaces. Use handles or knobs.
  • To protect against electrical hazards, do not immerse cord, plugs, or toaster in water or other liquid.
  • Close supervision is necessary when any appliance is used by or near children.

  • A fire may occur if toasters are covered or touching flammable material, including curtains, draperies, walls, and the like, when in operation.
  • Do not attempt to dislodge food when toaster is plugged in.
  • Do not operate unattended.
  • Do not toast pastries with runny fillings.

3. Setup and First Use

  1. Unpacking: Carefully remove the toaster from its packaging. Retain the packaging for future storage or disposal.
  2. Placement: Place the toaster on a stable, heat-resistant, and non-flammable surface, away from curtains or other flammable materials. Ensure there is adequate space around the toaster for ventilation.
  3. Cleaning: Wipe the exterior of the toaster with a damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners. Ensure the crumb tray is clean and properly inserted.
  4. First Use (Burn-off): Before toasting food for the first time, operate the toaster without bread for a few cycles at the highest setting. This will burn off any manufacturing residues and eliminate initial odors. A slight smoke or odor is normal during this process. Ensure the area is well-ventilated.
  5. Power Connection: Plug the power cord into a suitable 230V AC electrical outlet.

4.1. Basic Toasting

  1. Insert Bread: Place up to two slices of bread into the toasting slots.
  2. Select Browning Level: Turn the browning control dial to your desired setting (1 for light toast, 6 for dark toast). Start with a medium setting (e.g., 3 or 4) and adjust according to preference.
  3. Start Toasting: Press the carriage lever down until it locks into place. The toaster will begin toasting, and the indicator light will illuminate.
  4. Completion: Once the selected browning cycle is complete, the toast will automatically pop up, and the indicator light will turn off.

4.2. Special Functions

  • Cancel Function: To stop the toasting cycle at any time, press the CANCEL button. The carriage will immediately pop up.
  • Reheat Function: To warm up already toasted bread without further browning, insert the toast and press the REHEAT button after pressing the carriage lever down.
  • Defrost Function: To toast frozen bread, insert the bread, press the carriage lever down, and then press the DEFROST button. This function automatically adjusts the toasting time for frozen items.

5. Cleaning and Maintenance

Regular cleaning ensures optimal performance and extends the life of your toaster.

  1. Unplug and Cool: Always unplug the toaster from the power outlet and allow it to cool completely before cleaning.
  2. Crumb Tray:
    • Slide out the crumb tray located at the bottom of the toaster.
    • Empty crumbs into a waste bin.
    • Wipe the tray clean with a damp cloth and dry thoroughly before reinserting.
    • Note: Ensure the crumb tray is always in place before using the toaster.
  3. Exterior Cleaning: Wipe the exterior surfaces of the toaster with a soft, damp cloth. For stubborn marks, a mild detergent can be used, followed by wiping with a clean, damp cloth and then drying. Do not use abrasive cleaners, scouring pads, or metal polish.

  5. Storage: When not in use, store the toaster in a clean, dry place. You can wrap the power cord around the cord storage clips (if available) on the underside of the toaster.
