1. Introduction
This manual provides detailed instructions for the installation, operation, and maintenance of your ORICO USB-C NVMe M.2 SSD Enclosure. This device allows you to convert an NVMe M.2 solid-state drive into a portable external storage solution, featuring high-speed data transfer and an integrated cooling system with a temperature display.
2. Key Features
- Temperature Monitoring LED Display: Real-time monitoring of the enclosure's internal temperature.
- Efficient Heat Dissipation: Built-in silent fan and strategically placed exhaust holes, combined with a high thermal conductivity aluminum case and copper strips on the PCBA board, ensure optimal cooling.
- 10Gbps Fast Transmission: Utilizes a JMS583 master chip and USB 3.1 Gen2 Type-C interface for data transfer speeds up to 10Gbps (theoretical value). Supports UASP for enhanced performance.
- Wide Compatibility: Supports 2230, 2242, 2260, and 2280 NVMe M.2 M-Key/B+M-Key solid-state drives. Compatible with Mac OS, Windows 7/8/10, and Linux systems.
- Large Capacity Support: Accommodates NVMe SSDs up to 4TB.
- Intelligent Sleep Mode: Designed to conserve energy and extend the lifespan of the SSD.
3. Package Contents
Please verify that all items are present in the package:
- ORICO USB-C NVMe M.2 SSD Enclosure
- USB-C to USB-C Data Cable
- USB-A to USB-C Data Cable
- Thermal Pad
- Screwdriver
- Mounting Hardware (e.g., rubber rivet)
4. Compatibility
This enclosure is designed for specific M.2 SSD types and sizes:
- Supported SSD Types: NVMe M.2 M-Key and B+M-Key SSDs.
- Supported SSD Sizes: 2230, 2242, 2260, 2280.
- Operating System Compatibility: Mac OS, Windows 7/8/10, Linux.
Important Note: B Key/B+M-Key SATA SSDs are NOT supported by this enclosure.

5. Setup: SSD Installation
Follow these steps to install your NVMe M.2 SSD into the enclosure:
- Open the Enclosure: Carefully slide open the enclosure cover.
- Install Thermal Pad: Locate the designated area for the thermal pad on the enclosure's internal structure. Remove the protective films from both sides of the thermal pad and place it onto the SSD controller chip area. This helps in heat transfer to the enclosure for better cooling.
- Insert SSD: Gently insert your NVMe M.2 SSD into the M.2 slot on the PCBA board at an angle. Ensure the M-Key or B+M-Key notch aligns correctly.
- Secure SSD: Once inserted, press the SSD down until it is flat against the board. Use the provided rubber rivet to secure the opposite end of the SSD into the designated hole on the PCBA board.
- Close Enclosure: Slide the enclosure cover back into place until it clicks securely.

6. Operating Instructions
After installing the SSD, connect the enclosure to your device:
- Connect to Device: Use the provided USB-C to USB-C or USB-A to USB-C cable to connect the enclosure to your computer, laptop, or compatible mobile device. Ensure you use a USB 3.1 Gen2 (10Gbps) port on your host device for optimal performance.
- Drive Recognition: Your operating system should automatically detect the new external drive. If it's a new SSD, you may need to initialize and format it through Disk Management (Windows) or Disk Utility (Mac OS) before use.
- Monitor Temperature: The integrated LED display will show the current operating temperature of the enclosure, allowing you to monitor the SSD's thermal status.
- Data Transfer: Drag and drop files to and from the external drive as you would with any other storage device. The enclosure supports data transfer rates up to 10Gbps.
- Intelligent Sleep Mode: The enclosure will automatically enter an intelligent sleep mode after a period of inactivity to save power and prolong SSD life. It will wake up automatically upon access.

7. Maintenance
To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your ORICO SSD Enclosure:
- Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the enclosure. Avoid using liquid cleaners or solvents.
- Port Care: Keep the USB-C port free from dust and debris.
- Fan Maintenance: Periodically check the fan and exhaust vents for dust accumulation. Use compressed air to gently clear any blockages to maintain effective cooling.
- Storage: When not in use, store the enclosure in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
8. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your ORICO SSD Enclosure, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
- SSD Not Recognized:
- Ensure the SSD is correctly installed and securely seated in the M.2 slot.
- Verify the USB cable is firmly connected to both the enclosure and your host device.
- Check if the SSD is initialized and formatted in your operating system's Disk Management (Windows) or Disk Utility (Mac OS).
- Confirm that your SSD is an NVMe M.2 M-Key or B+M-Key type, and not a SATA M.2 SSD.
- Slow Data Transfer Speeds:
- Ensure you are connecting the enclosure to a USB 3.1 Gen2 (10Gbps) compatible port on your computer. Older USB 2.0 or 3.0 ports will result in lower speeds.
- Verify that your operating system and drivers support UASP (USB Attached SCSI Protocol) for optimal performance.
- Check the health and performance of your NVMe SSD.
- Enclosure Fan Noise:
- A slight fan noise is normal during operation, especially under heavy load.
- If the fan becomes excessively loud or makes unusual sounds, check for any obstructions in the fan or exhaust vents.
- Ensure the enclosure cover is properly closed and secured to prevent vibrations.
- Temperature Display Inaccuracy:
- The LED display shows the temperature within the enclosure, which may differ slightly from the internal temperature reported by the SSD's sensors. This is expected behavior.
- Enclosure Not Powering On/Functioning:
- Try connecting the enclosure to a different USB port or a different computer to rule out port or system issues.
- If the issue persists, contact ORICO customer support for further assistance.
