5. Setup

5.1 Battery Installation

The BERRCOM JXB-178 thermometer requires 2 AA batteries (not included). Follow these steps to install them:

  1. Locate the battery compartment cover on the handle of the thermometer.
  2. Slide the cover open in the direction indicated by the arrow.
  3. Insert 2 AA batteries, ensuring the correct polarity (+ and -) as marked inside the compartment.
  4. Close the battery compartment cover until it clicks securely into place.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1 Powering On/Off

6.2 Taking a Temperature Measurement (Body Mode)

  1. Ensure the thermometer is in "Body" mode. If not, press the "MODE" button to cycle through modes until "Body" is displayed.
  2. Point the infrared sensor towards the center of the forehead, maintaining a distance of 3-5 cm (1.2-2 inches).
  3. Press the measurement trigger (On/Off switch) once.
  4. The temperature reading will be displayed on the screen within 1 second.
  5. The display backlight color indicates the temperature status:
    • Green: Normal temperature (e.g., 36.8°C)
    • Yellow: Elevated temperature (e.g., 37.5°C)
    • Red: High fever (e.g., 39.6°C) with an audible alarm.

6.3 Switching Measurement Modes

The thermometer supports multiple measurement modes:

To switch between modes, press the "MODE" button repeatedly until the desired mode icon appears on the display.

6.4 Recalling Memory Readings

The thermometer can store up to 32 sets of temperature data.

  1. With the thermometer powered on, press the "MEM" (Memory) button.
  2. Each press of the "MEM" button will cycle through the stored readings, from the most recent to the oldest.
