Instruction Manual

Introduction

This manual provides essential information for the safe and efficient use of your Fellowes 4630001 Microshred 12Ms Microcut Shredder. Please read all instructions carefully before operating the device and retain this manual for future reference. This shredder is designed for personal and home office use, offering superior security for confidential documents.

Setup

  1. Unpacking: Carefully remove the shredder from its packaging. Ensure all packing materials are removed from the shredder and the waste bin.
  2. Placement: Position the shredder on a flat, stable surface. This model is suitable for desk-side or home office environments. Ensure adequate space around the unit for ventilation and access to the waste bin.
  3. Waste Bin Installation: Ensure the 6-gallon pull-out waste bin is correctly inserted into the shredder unit. The shredder will not operate if the bin is not properly seated.
  4. Power Connection: Plug the power cord into a standard electrical outlet.

Operating Instructions

  1. Power On: Locate the power switch, typically on the back or side of the unit, and turn it to the 'ON' position. The shredder will enter standby mode.
  2. Loading Materials: Insert up to 12 sheets of paper into the paper entry slot. The shredder will automatically begin shredding. This unit can also shred staples, paper clips, credit cards, and unopened junk mail.
  3. SafeSense Technology: The shredder is equipped with SafeSense Technology, which automatically stops shredding when hands touch the paper opening. This is a safety feature and normal operation will resume once hands are clear.
  4. Continuous Operation: The shredder can operate continuously for up to 30 minutes. After this period, a cool-down period is required to prevent overheating. Refer to the 'Troubleshooting' section for more details on overheating.
  5. Auto Reverse Technology: If a paper jam occurs, the Auto Reverse Technology will automatically stop and reverse the paper flow to clear the jam. If the jam persists, refer to the 'Troubleshooting' section.
  6. Power Off: After use, turn the power switch to the 'OFF' position and unplug the unit from the electrical outlet for safety.

Maintenance

  • Emptying the Waste Bin: Regularly check and empty the 6-gallon pull-out waste bin. The bin can hold approximately 450 sheets of microcut paper. Overfilling the bin can lead to jams or reduced performance.
  • Cleaning the Exterior: Wipe the exterior of the shredder with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Shredder Blade Oiling: For optimal performance and longevity, it is recommended to oil the shredder blades periodically, especially after emptying the waste bin several times or after heavy use. Use a shredder-specific oil applied across the paper entry slot.
