Setup Instructions
The MagLite AT3600 Cartridge with Silver Headshell comes pre-assembled, making installation straightforward. Follow these steps to properly install it on your compatible turntable.
1. Attaching the Headshell to the Tonearm
- Carefully hold the headshell by its finger lift.
- Align the four-pin connector of the headshell with the tonearm's receptacle.
- Gently push the headshell into the tonearm until it is fully seated.
- Rotate the locking collar on the tonearm clockwise until the headshell is securely fastened. Do not overtighten.
2. Balancing the Tonearm and Setting Tracking Force
Proper tonearm balance and tracking force are critical for optimal sound quality and to prevent damage to your records and stylus. Refer to your turntable's instruction manual for specific guidance on these adjustments.
- Recommended Tracking Force: 1.5 - 2.5 grams.
3. Anti-Skate Adjustment
Adjust the anti-skate setting on your turntable according to the tracking force you have set. This helps prevent the stylus from being pulled towards the center of the record. Consult your turntable's manual for the correct procedure.

Operating Instructions
Once the cartridge and headshell are properly installed and adjusted, operating your turntable is straightforward. Always handle your records and the tonearm with care.
- Place a record on the turntable platter.
- Ensure the turntable is set to the correct speed (33 1/3 or 45 RPM).
- Gently lift the tonearm using the cueing lever.
- Position the stylus over the lead-in groove of the record.
- Slowly lower the cueing lever to allow the stylus to descend onto the record.
- At the end of the record, use the cueing lever to lift the tonearm and return it to its rest.
Important: Avoid dropping the tonearm or dragging the stylus across the record surface, as this can damage both the stylus and your records.
Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and extends the life of your cartridge and stylus.
- Stylus Cleaning: Gently clean the stylus before or after each play using a soft stylus brush, brushing from back to front. Never brush from side to side or front to back. Use a specialized stylus cleaning fluid sparingly if necessary.
- Cartridge Body: Keep the cartridge body free from dust and debris. Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe it clean.
- Stylus Replacement: The stylus is a consumable part and will wear out over time. Replace the stylus after approximately 500-1000 hours of play, or sooner if you notice a degradation in sound quality or visible wear.
- Storage: When not in use for extended periods, ensure the stylus guard is in place to protect the stylus.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your MagLite AT3600 Cartridge with Silver Headshell, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
- No Sound or Weak Sound:
- Check all connections from the turntable to your amplifier/receiver.
- Ensure the headshell is securely attached to the tonearm and the locking collar is tightened.
- Verify that your amplifier/receiver is set to the correct "Phono" input.
- Distorted Sound:
- Check the stylus for dirt or debris and clean it carefully.
- Re-check the tracking force and anti-skate settings. Incorrect settings can cause distortion.
- Inspect the stylus for wear or damage. A worn stylus will produce distorted sound and should be replaced.
- Skipping or Jumping:
- Ensure the turntable is on a stable, level surface.
- Verify the tracking force is set correctly (1.5 - 2.5 grams). Too light a tracking force can cause skipping.
- Check the record for dust, scratches, or warps.
- Inspect the stylus for damage or excessive wear.
If these steps do not resolve the issue, please consult the support section or your turntable's manual.
