Setup Instructions

1. Position Your Router

Place your router in a central location to ensure optimal Wi-Fi coverage throughout your home. Avoid placing it near large metal objects, concrete walls, or other devices that may cause interference.

2. Connect to Your Modem

  1. Power off your modem and remove its battery if applicable.
  2. Connect one end of the provided Ethernet cable to the yellow Internet (WAN) port on the back of your RAX35 router.
  3. Connect the other end of the Ethernet cable to the Ethernet port on your modem.
  4. Power on your modem and wait for it to fully boot up (typically indicated by stable status lights).

3. Power On the Router

  1. Connect the power adapter to the router's power port.
  2. Plug the power adapter into a wall outlet.
  3. Wait for the router's power LED to turn solid white. This may take a few minutes.

4. Connect to the Router's Wi-Fi Network

Locate the Wi-Fi network name (SSID) and password on the label on the bottom or back of your router. Use a computer or mobile device to connect to this network.

5. Complete Setup Using the Nighthawk App

For the easiest setup, download the NETGEAR Nighthawk app on your mobile device. The app will guide you through the remaining steps, including creating a NETGEAR account and customizing your Wi-Fi settings.

  • Launch the app and follow the on-screen instructions to set up your router.

Operating Instructions

Connecting Devices

You can connect devices to your router wirelessly or via Ethernet cable.

Wireless Connection (Wi-Fi)

  1. On your device (computer, smartphone, tablet), open your Wi-Fi settings.
  2. Select your router's Wi-Fi network name (SSID) from the list of available networks.
  3. Enter the Wi-Fi password when prompted. This information is on the router's label.

Wired Connection (Ethernet)

For devices requiring a stable, high-speed connection, use an Ethernet cable.

  1. Connect one end of an Ethernet cable to an available LAN port (ports 1-4) on the back of your router.

  1. Open the Nighthawk app or access the router's web interface by typing routerlogin.net or the router's IP address (e.g., 192.168.1.1) into a web browser.
  2. Log in with your administrator credentials.
  3. Navigate to the Firmware Update section (location may vary).
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to check for and install any available updates. Do not power off the router during an update.

Restarting the Router

Periodically restarting your router can help resolve minor connectivity issues and improve performance. To restart:

  1. Unplug the power adapter from the router.
  2. Wait for 10-15 seconds.
  3. Plug the power adapter back in.
  4. Wait for the router to fully boot up.

Cleaning

Troubleshooting

No Internet Connection

Cannot Access Router Settings
